I think if Stanford wins they should be ahead of Oregon, because they'll have a top-10 win. Uconn doesn't have any impressive wins and haven't played any team of top-25 caliber, or really even top-40, so not sure I see Oregon falling below them (Oregon does have a top-25 win).

Syracuse may fall out of the top 25.

From all the box scores I’ve seen of Oregon, I assume that Ionescu hasn’t been herself this year

Will Louisville become #1 next week?

No. The voters usually defend their past opinions. For some of them 8th to 1st would be admitting they were wrong. I would think they will get a couple of votes for No 1 though.

We still have No 2 vs No. 5 and No 3 vs No. 10 today.

Interesting development. Four quick thoughts and a long-term question:

1. I really like Ionescu, but her tendency to disappear in big games is a pretty glaring weakness. I'm having a hard time thinking of one really big game against a non-PAC 12 team not named MSU where she didn't have a mediocre outing.

2. I really like Graves (like, one of my top 3 most likeable WCBB coaches), but he does not coach with a Plan B (or C or D) in mind, and his players generally don't have solid plan Bs either (with the notable exception of Sabally, who can really do everything).

3. I really like Hebard, but she (along with Boley) really lacks a plan B when plan A isn't working. I suspect it's why her professional prospects are relatively muted as compared to her buffo college stats lines. Plan A is outstanding, but if the other team takes it away...

4. Speaking of: Walz really is a great tactician. I'd still give him no more than a B grade for player development, but he really knows how to exploit weaknesses and scout the opposition.

Now, the question is: does Oregon bounce back from this the way UConn did last year when they lost to Louisville? I'd surely love to see a rematch in the post season...

So. Oregon was 6-34 in 3 pt shooting  and Sabrina was 1-8 from 3 and 6/19 while Sabally was 2-11 from 3 and 7/19 from the field. Let’s not get too carried away about Sabou and how “great she is”. This goes to show that Oregon relies too much on the 3 pointer. Boley also disappointing 1-5 from the floor. Oregon is good but NOT way ahead of others, Baylor. Stanford, UConn, Louisville are all very good teams with very solid coaches. MSU can inject themselves into the discussion tonight with a win vs. Stanford.
This will be a very good season for WCBB! ;)

I think it's that superior elite teams/coaches can scheme to shut down one player and Ionescu is a huge part of Oregon's offense. It's been like that for what's now 4 years. Walz had his own player in McCaughtry and UConn would focus on her and always beat Louisville.

See my answer for No 1

I've always thought that Hebard was better at the 4. As a freshman she was outstanding but she's not at her best against bigger/taller centers.

4. Speaking of: Walz really is a great tactician. I'd still give him no more than a B grade for player development, but he really knows how to exploit weaknesses and scout the opposition.

100% agree. Many don't like him for that Baylor game but there is a difference between being physical and being dirty. He doesn't get a lot of scorers but great defense is more hard work than great talent.

3 games in 3 days often leads to poor outside shooting. Oregon missed a lot of wide open 3's today. IMO they are still the best team but not the dominant power some thought.[/QUOTE]

I think Oregon State should be either #3 or #4, actually.

Obviously depending on the other 2 games, but I wouldn't put them lower than #4.

Walz said after the game the video guy was the one who came up with the defense to slow Oregon down by putting the center at the point. I give him credit for listening to his people.

I wish I got to vote before the game was over, I would have went with Louisville. I think Walz is a good defensive schemer, and it looks like he had a good one. Graves is a good motivator and obviously a likeable guy, but I don't think he can do in-game adjustments at an elite level. His speeches and mannerisms kind of remind me of Frese.

Sabrina has turned I to a star, but I'm not sure that's his doing. She's one of those players where she was going to be a star wherever she went. Hebard is extremely one dimensional. Sabally is very talented, but doesn't play with much poise that an upperclassmen should have. It'll be interesting to see how his 2020 class develops.

At the end of the day I still think Oregon is still the best overall team this season. However any mystique of everyone else fighting for second place disappeared today. Every team out there capable of winning it all has some question marks. I think it’s going to make for a great season.

Yeah, they really showed out today against powerhouse Liberty. OSU trailed by 5 at the half.

Seeing how Oregon was the preseason almost consensus #1, I don't think the same voters are going to drop them more than 1 or 2 spots.
And what does it really matter at this time of the season?

Ionescu's unbelievable Triple Double record is a hint at how to beat Oregon. She would still be an AA at UConn but her stats wouldn't be so incredible. She's my NPOY at this point but elite teams/coaches only need to neutralize her because the rest of the team plays off her.

That's a first for me. Someone better give the video coordinator a raise and probably a promotion.

Cut off the head of the beast? I agree, that's how they are vulnerable. She does it all for them, but they do not seem capable of beating tough teams unless she has a big game. However, few teams can slow down Sabrina. Louisville has very good perimeter defenders, and of course Walz as the Mastermind. Do you guys think UConn has the players to frustrate Sabrina later this season?

Right now? No way. Later in the season? I hope but Griffin has to get smart real fast and Williams has to learn how not to get screened so easily. Maybe if we had UL's freshman pg, Konno. She came in during the 2nd period when Jones picked up her 4th foul and never let Ionescu get by her. She only played 17 minutes and scored but 6 points but to me she gets a game ball.
