I like Rhyne Howard, but I'm really not feeling her on this list and Anriel Howard not. Pretty clear to me Sunday who the better player was.

No big deal. Anriel is not POY caliber, but she should probably be on this list.

No Anreil Howard? Whatever experts are participating in this WATCH must not be WATCHING any WBB games this year!
But McCowan is averaging more points and rebounds than Anriel.
Anriel has had better performances in the high-visibility games (Oregon, Marquette).

Eligibility requires more than just basketball skill.
About

The Awards’ National Advisory Board seeds each National Ballot (men’s and women’s) with the top candidates for each award category. The National Advisory Board is charged with selecting those players who meet the Award criteria as established by the Award’s founders. Prior to being listed on the Final Ballot, each player must be certified by their university to meet the qualifications of the Award, including: candidates must be full-time students in an accredited NCAA college or university; candidates must be a full-time student making progress toward graduation and have a cumulative 2.00 grade point average since enrolling in their school; candidates must exhibit streungth of character, both on and off the court; candidates should contribute to team effort; candidates must excel in both offense and defense; and candidates should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season. Voting begins at the end of the season, and voters, consisting of nearly 1,000 members of the national college basketball media, will take into account the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

You did see Sophie on that list and the Kentucky freshman who Anreil just made look like a freshman in the MSST game. Anreil belongs on any top 25 WBB player list IMHO!

Should be an interesting battle for the 5-person AA team. I don't watch nearly as much as some of the experts on this board, so anyone else in the running outside of these 11?
  • Kalani Brown, Baylor (Sr)
  • Kaila Charles, Maryland (Jr)
  • Napheesa Collier, UConn (Sr)
  • Asia Durr, Louisville (Sr)
  • Megan Gustafson, Iowa (Sr)
  • Sabrina Ionescu, Oregon (Jr)
  • Teaira McCowan, Mississippi State (Sr)
  • Arike Ogunbowale, Notre Dame (Sr)
  • Katie Lou Samuelson, UConn (Sr)
  • Jessica Shepard, Notre Dame (Sr)
  • Alanna Smith, Stanford (Sr)

No one likely. If I had to pick one sleeper, it would be Bridget Carleton. If Iowa State can continue to impress in Big 12 play and climb the rankings, she'll start to get some buzz. Averaging 20 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 4.5 apg. She does it all for them.

But still, it'll be awfully hard for an "outsider" to beat out 6 of those players. Right now I'd say Gustafson, Ionescu and Ogunbowale are virtual locks. Gotta think two of Collier, Lou, Brown, Durr, Smith and McCowan will likely be in as well.

The Wooden Award has been presented to women since 2003-04.

While there has never been a year where at least 1 player (generally more) from UConn didn't make the Pre Season list there have been 2 years were none made the Mid Season list.

In 2006-07 (Charde Houston made Pre-Season list)
In 2004-05 (Ann Strother and Barbara Turner made Pre Season list)

I would just like to compliment your diligent spelling. Those are some tough names!
