Is your criterion for whether we could have benefited from a recruit whether it would have led to a championship?

We just experienced probably the worst 2-year stretch in this program's history since the 80's. Whether we would have won a championship or not, I would have rather had Dunn.

Which 2 years was the worst stretch since the 80s? IMO 2015 + 2016 was better than 2012 + 2013 which was better than 2007 + 2008

I'll take a National Championship in 2014 followed by those two "worst years" followed by a top 10 recruiting class over landing Dunn in 2012.

To be clear you didn't miss a beat by not having Dunn. Napier was a once in a lifetime type leader and honesty I remember thinking at the time that UConn got him because we were recruiting him as well that that was Okay because we were really big on Tharpe who made a horrible decision in my eyes by decommitting from us and going to Kansas. In the end though he was nowhere near the talent or drive of Shabazz Napier who remains one of my all-time favorite CBB players.

We've been up against you guys many times for guards over the years with little success, will this time be different? I guess we'll find out in a month or so.

What kind of child hangs out - seemingly endlessly - on a Fan Board of a Program where (i.) we might not play each other for another half decade; (ii.) we rarely compete for the same recruits; (iii.) we UConnFans rarely will look at your Standings chart any longer; and (iv.) WE don't even think of Providence the City any longer.

This is past your expiration date Milk Boy.

I get your point and I agree but a Dunn commitment could have altered the team in many ways -
  • TSam may not commit and he played an important role in the run to the title.
  • Dunn could have hurt the team chemistry
  • He could have taken some of Boats or Giffeys minutes in the tourney.

Its possible we could have won with him but what we do know for a fact is we won without him.

I see, I missed the part where you were voted the spokesperson for ALL UConn fans. Congrats, this is a large step up for you from carrying the water for many posters here.

For sure -- I wouldn't change it, if I had access to the wayback machine. But everybody talking with certainty that it's an either/or situation confuses me.

True - mainly disagreed with the notion that a recruit is better than a three year span that included a championship.

Good point on Omar, I had completely forgotten about him. Oddly, both guys - Omar and Dunn - were injured the year we won the title. Theoretically, we could have had Dunn rather than Omar and the only thing that would have changed would have been 2015 and 2016. But I love Omar, and nobody could have predicted the injuries - as a freshman, he was actually a more effective player than Dunn.

Still, no doubt a miss by the staff, even if you could use the whole butterfly effect thing to say it actually helped us.
 
I don't get PC pull on these big time guards, every criticism about Dunn was his coaching and system, basically not showing his full repertoire. That is one excuse I don't want to hear about our next first round pick.

Napier may be the most decorated impact player, but once in a lifetime he wasn't. We've had KEA & Kemba recently too. It's the program.

Seriously what @ u= c× k .... the mix of guys we had = a title. Who cares after that. PC is at best a short ugly uconn lite who took a real fall skateboarding in the 6th grade and probably had a mom who did not mind a drink when she was 7 month pregnant with pc..

I disagree with this a bit, there last 3 point guards under Cooley are Council who ended up breaking the all-time BE assist record and is making a nice living overseas. He took Bryce Cotton from literally a 400th ranked recruit who nobody wanted to an all-american and he is still in the NBA, and then Dunn who was two time BE POY and Defensive POY (Granted in a weaker BE) His offense completely centers on the PG and if you come to PC you will put up numbers. That's the draw. Plus Cooley is a good guy that the kids like. To me it's not hard to see why guards might want to play for him but I'm obviously biased, but that's my take. Every year a PC player leads the league in scoring and another one leads in assists. He lets his stars play.

I don't disagree with this Kemba and KEA were great players who achieved great things (NC's) I just think Napier had less around him. Just loved the kid. This is just an opinion.

Dunns biggest knocks was he was put in a system where he couldn't run (as many as uconns) high pnr nearly enough, and it's often curtailed his ability to show his other offense abilities like (not just threading needles, but jumpers when turning the corner. And passing metrics are hard to gauge , many players have a propensity to hunt them . Forget assists , extra passes/entry passes/ and skip ones to weak side shooters are what I mean. There's a reason pcs offence was a dumpster fire , even being led by the best pg in the land.

That is simply wrong, PC ran a pick and roll offense at a higher percentage than just about any team in the country. The offense sucked because outside of Bentil it was the team that couldn't shoot straight. Did you even watch them play? Every single draft card on him talks about how he excels in the pick and roll. Derrick Thornton's trainer specifically called out Coach K for lying to him about how much pick and roll he would play and actually compared it to how much pick and roll Dunn was exposed to. Just google it and you will see it. Interesting ... on why he might be leaving Duke. | Utefans.Net I honestly don't know where you are coming from here.
