Lockedonuconn guy pod- talking about his news

Honest question is some of the hate to Matt carryover from Zanetto and his ill timed “UConn to the Big 12 is imminent” leak and other dumb takes?
I know I never gave this guy a chance because of Zanetto. But I certainly would have been open had anyone here said nice things about him.

Fans who trash content creators are no diffferent then fans who trash players and coaches btw. UConn content does exist beyond Storrs Central and the Boneyard that's a good thing. Storrs Central which I do subscribe to is not the mafia. This constant vitriol especially to ones who support UConn doesn't do us any good.
Comparing content creators (especially those with limited history) to coaches and players is insulting to the coaches and players.

Watched him for the first time the other day and I legit think most of us would do a better job. Aside from being annoying in the way he speaks, his info is mostly conjecture anyway. And for the love of god, the solo/westbrook comp is so beyond idiotic.
I agree but I like him better than the guy who was running it last year. Sports pod casts like that are way better when 2+ people host it and they have discussions with different viewpoints.

What did he make up? He was right about about Jaylin leaving. He said Thursday Freeman was still schedule to visit (likely true at the time). And that Braylon will be back (likely true).

Not sure why the vitriol against this guy based on the what he actually said in the above video. Now he’s getting trashed because he actually gets off his ass and gets to Storrs to do actual reporting? He has covered the football team for years. Last month he was in Storrs interviewing David Benedict. Benedict doesn’t just sit down with anyone.

Seems anyone outside the Storrs Central banner who dares to share some crumbs with the fans breaking the sacred paywall gets aggressively attacked. Interesting.
Respect is earned. If he ends up being consistently right, he'll get his flowers.

This thing is going to go one of 2 ways. He turns out to be wrong on both counts and he’s an idiot forever OR he’s right on this and the rest of this thread should be mea culpas by everyone who dismissed him. Obviously I would enjoy reading those mea culpas.
What did he forecast?

Do you want me to look into my magical crystal ball and run through my rolodex of zero contacts (other than reading the Boneyard):

Mullins and Ball are back.
Khamenia is going to be a Husky next season.

And there are a ton of legitimate journalists and podcasters that already know this (if true) but keep their mouths shut until the news is official out of respect for the players and the program. It isn't on this guy to break this news so he can get clicks. That is a scummy move.

I wasn't comparing a content creator to a player or a coach. There's a different between criticizing and trashing someone.

Correct. The vitriol on this board is amazing. Plenty of time to attack him if he’s wrong but waiting to do it would be right.
I’m not going to listen based on the comments above, but it’s diff if he’s making an educated guess, I think… v reporting something is happening and y know it’s 100%

And if those tied to the team are giving kids a chance to break things you can phrase it like I expect….

So here’s my prediction. We get NK, Bray comes back and Freeman isn’t coming here.

If I’m right am I should I start a podcast 😆😆

Nope. In this world breaking stories one or more of them would reveal it with a small disclaimer. We have not heard that on Mullins. What we have heard are sources saying he should. Who has said he is definitely back?

Oh. So instead of putting your money where your mouth is and actual report on it and stand by it, the upstanding thing to do is post cryptic GIF’s on X teasing the fan base that they have insider info but are not gonna come out and say anything. You see, that’s the respectful thing to do! BTW, some of those people are monetized on platforms like X too. So they are “doing it for clicks” as well.

Norlander and Parrish were commenting on how far they are ahead of the reported news (days). Players tell a coach yes, then the agents and lawyers have to draw up contracts and review them. Then the agreement is signed and made official.

Agents talk and journalists and insiders know things. Which is how you get Trilly and Skim who are ahead of the news. But even they are subtle about what they know.

There are people commenting on this board who know what is going to happen. But they stick with small acknowledgements and let the players and the program break the actual news.

I give him credit for “breaking” his “scoops” with his real name and face
I don’t give him credit for his voice and cadence. He kind of does that annoying Ben Shapiro thing, but with a slightly more tolerable voice.

I think Matt Schonvisky actually does a nice job with Locked On UConn. His style is different from "Mut" (sorry, I only remember his nickname) as well as Mark Zanetto, and has taken some getting used to, but I find him insightful and informative. He is a credentialed media member and knows his stuff. I say give him a chance.

Freeman’s recruitment seems to be a bit of a mystery. I wanted J Stew to stay, but now that he’s gone, I wonder if that opens up the possibility for both Freeman and Khamenia. Would give us a TON of versatility at the forward spots if so.

I thought we and Alabama have come off freeman completely and now he’s talking to Tennessee and St John’s? Seems he’s just purely bag chasing

Yes, at least for me. When I see Locked On UConn I immediately think about the Big 12 debacle. It gave the brand a bad reputation.
The Big12 debacle was Zanetto and I think it hurt Uconn’s chances, with clueless politicians then chiming in to help undermine things. So I’m glad Matt took over the podcast. I also find Matt more insightful and knowledgable, and it sounds like he’s actually followed UConn football closely over the years - definitely more than I can say about Zanetto, who’s grasp of our football history was lacking and embarrassing when he appeared on B12 podcasts

Zanetto destroyed any hope we had just to get out an early “scoop”

I give anyone credit for trying, because if no one is hating, you are not doing anything.

That said, there are rules for this kinda stuff:
1. If you have a contact that is close to the team and can get your a few hours or a day in advance of the public you say you have a source close to the team.
2. If you don't have a source, but you intake from all social media and forums, etc. then you say "and this is just me".

Don't even say you have sources and say someone is 100% without saying the source said that.

Matt, is that you?

May be it's just me, but this guy is a freaking idiot. Either you have a trustworthy source, or you are just making shit up.
I don't know this guy or have ever listened to his show, but so far he's 2 for 2. If Mullins announces he's coming back then he's 3 for 3. He has better sources than Chief. Maybe he's not such an idiot.

The Lockedon guy made the Khamenia call?

I could have made these calls too - we'll never know whether they are educated guesses or if he had info.
