A 1-4 seed is out the window. If we get a 5, that is a death sentence. A 6 is a life sentence. The 6/11 matchup is almost the same as the 5/12 and there is no 1 seed to deal with until the Elite 8.

I agree with a 6 or 7 just for a better op to take down a 2 or 3 seed before facing a 1 seed. But I also agree with @uconntoatl , we shouldn't be afraid to play anyone.

I don't understand this mentality. It isn't about being afraid. It is about matchups.
In 2014, we were a 7 seed. We avoided the #1 Virginia and they didn't even make it to play us. If we play them, we probably lose.
If that’s your case then you should want the 5 seed because the 1 won’t be there. You have NO idea which seeds are gonna win or lose. Give me the best seed we can get every time. You eventually have to beat everyone in front of you if you’re gonna win.

Normally I agree, but not this time.

The #1 seeds are gettable this year.

And there's a bigger gap between #3 seeds (Nova, Purdue) and #4 seeds (Illinois, Providence) than usual.

If we can get a good 12-seed matchup (strongly prefer a decent mid-major champ over a P5 play-in winner), that's better than an 11.

As a 5 seed, we should have a great chance to make the second weekend and take our shot at a #1.

I would much rather play Purdue than Illinois. A lot of this is matchup based. I don't want to see Baylor, Kansas, or Kentucky. Would much rather face an Auburn, Duke, Wisconsin, or Texas Tech in the Sweet 16.

Virginia didn't lose in the second round, they lost in the Sweet 16. 7s knock off 2s all the time; 8s knock off 1s at almost half the rate. The 1 seed is going to be there; the 2 seed may or may not. You do have to beat everyone in front of you but you want favorable matchups.

I don't see us falling off the 5 line.. too much chaos ahead of us with the teams fighting for the 4 line. We're comfortably in that 5 line, let's hope we get a good 12 matchup and not a B1G semi-underachiever.. there's a lot of good 4 matchups in the R32

The whole tournament will be as wide open as any. The Big East has gotten us as ready as any other conference could. Bring on whomever and no matter what we have to win 2 games and then regroup.

Sorry but the team that beat a 2,3,and 4 seed before beating the overall #1 doesn’t lose to Virginia in 2014.

I would rather a Rutgers/Michigan/Illinois that have a 40% chance of not even showing than a Loyola or SDSU who are going to show up.

Disagree. Also, we were a bad matchup for Florida. Virginia and their stifling defense would have been a terrible matchup for us. We lucked out of that one but that is how the tournament goes. We lucked out of playing Duke in 11 when Arizona beat them as well.

Selfishly, I'd be all for a 6 as there's a 50/50 chance they'd be playing here. And if that happens, I'll organize the bar crawl for anyone who's coming.

You sound like a wuss. The 2 and 3 seeds are as good as the 1 seeds this year anyways outside of Gonzaga.

We're not getting a 6 seed.

Lmao Save all the debating and let's wait until Sunday to see what seed we get, who our match up will be and the path to a final 4 and the possibilities to get there.

I hope a good region so I can get a couple of tickets to support

The historical record of 7s vs 2s is 30%. I’d say that’s far from “all the time”. The statistics show there ain’t that big of a difference. You cherry picked a year that happened to work out because the 1 seed was beaten before the regional final. I want the best seed we can get . Period. If your goal is truly the NC you’re gonna have to beat a bunch of good teams to do it.

Who would you guys prefer? One of those Mountain West teams like Wyoming or Boise St or a surging Power 5 like Indiana or Tex A&M? Could we see the Pikiell Rutgers matchup?

My fear is that we are going to get one of the play-in winners.

I don’t really get this either - take the higher seed. Realistically I’d really like to get to the sweet 16, rather a #4 second game instead of a #3.

You’re afraid of 75% of the field. Everyone we play will be good
Wrong. I'm afraid of certain seed lines and certain teams. I feel very confident that we would beat the likes of Duke, the MW teams, the other ACC teams, Wisconsin, Purdue, Auburn. I do not want to see Kentucky, Baylor, Tennessee, or Illinois. Also want to avoid Creighton and Nova. There are about 8-10 teams I don't want to see. If the bracket falls the right way, we may not see any of them. The tournament does not crown the best team; it crowns the top 68 team that gets hot and gets the right matchups.

We were not the best team in the country in 2011 or 2014. We just got hot and avoided teams we would have struggled with (Virginia and Louisville in 14 for instance).
