Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is reportedly involved in a major $5 billion project that could launch an international basketball league to rival the NBA.

The Greg Norman of basketball.

Gross.

Imagine the NBA making him a billionaire and then moving against them when you leave? Only LeBron, that’s him at his finest.

He’s been eyeing this up for a few years…he’s also trying to get in on a Vegas expansion team potentially. He’s trying to get real rich.

Seems pretty cool. Could potentially be a hell of a spectacle, and we could even finally shut Noah Lyles up about the “World Champion” thing!

Pretty sure Lebron made himself a billionaire. He's been pretty vocal about getting equity in the NBA, so this seems like a hedge against that

Hard to play in the NBA while trying to build a rival Intl league.

Also the 6 teams of men's and women's travelling is going to be best of G League or Summer League type players - no real starters on NBA or WNBA teams. While there are great Intl players, I would rather they come thru UConn like Furphy is. And I truly hope Pitino is saying "How did we not see this kid?!?!" :)

Anything Leold can do to remain in the limelight he will do.

If Tiger wanted to start his own league at his peak, he would have taken over.

Any chance that LeBron is just talking this up in order to pressure the NBA to get him a franchise? Seems like a dumb idea.

I’d say this is the most likely scenario, but I’d think he’d have the equity and brand value to easily go in on the future teams in Vegas and/or potentially Seattle?

I don’t blame LeBron for trying this, but it reminds me of the NFL rival leagues that people pretended to care about for 5 minutes. There just isn’t enough talent to keep people interested in secondary leagues.

Difference is basketball is infinitely more global.
