At this point, I think she’s UConn’s to lose. There’s just a lot to point to UConn being her main contender. She’s been to First Night the last two years, some unofficial visits, wears UConn gear (which I feel like isn’t super common unless a recruit is on a visit/at a game), her and her mom both interact with my UConn twitter account quite a bit, follows a lot of UConn players on social media, Napheesa Collier is her “idol”,etc. All that to say, I think she’s UConn material and the interest is there on both sides so I like our chances.

It just came to my attention that Lauren Hassell no longer follows UConn on Instagram. She only follows Vanderbilt. I find this a little concerning because she has always come across to me as a big UConn fan and more likely than not to commit to UConn. But to unfollow UConn just seems so deliberate.

This actually doesn't surprise me but I don't want to speculate publicly about the possible reasons why.

She signed with an NIL agency in early September and shortly afterwards her social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter) unfollowed all her finalists. In late September her account re-followed Vanderbilt (her local school). Her agency likely monitors or even controls her social media now, this has become pretty common sadly.

She also took an unofficial visit to North Carolina in October.

Thats too bad, she seemed like a strong UConn lean taking multiple visits to Uconn on her own dime over the past couple of years.

Having First Night this year would’ve told us a lot as she attended the past two.

I’m wondering if maybe there was some sort of glitch or maybe she did see this forum lol. Because now she’s following UConn, UNC in addition to Vanderbilt

I’m was hoping someone with a membership could summarize for us, too. I’d like to know what her smaller list looks like and when she will visit Vandy. Next week is a dead period, so it won’t be then.
 
The article says she has made official visits to Louisville and North Carolina. The article says she will make one more official visit, and that is to Vanderbilt. So, it would appear those are her final three schools. As to whether anyone leads, Hassell does not tip her hand. She has great things to say about her relationships with the coaching staffs at all three schools and mentions relationships with players and/or incoming players at all three schools.

When a player that has long showed a great interest in Uconn looks elsewhere, it could be the result of several things, but I suspect it might be due to our interest in Love, same position but rated a little ahead of Lauren. She might have gone from being plan A at that position to plan B with love's emergence. Or in this day and age it could be monetary since she would be a backup at least for the first year.

If we get Love, no problem, but if we don't, plan C might be the portal, because the class of 27 options at the 4 fall off quite a bit after those two.

Thanks for the insight. I wonder how much UCONN was recruiting Lauren. I always thought it may have been Eve Long or Lauren Hassell for the 4/5 position for the 2027 class. It very well could have been that all along and Lauren did not want to wait to see what Eve Long did and moved on from UCONN, or maybe GA was more interested in Long than Lauren.

Jayla Forbes/ Zaniya Johnson could be other good options if UConn don’t land either land Lauren or Eve

I'm hoping Long is in the bag and Hassell is no longer under consideration.
