Lady Vols assistant Jolette Law leaving for South Carolina

TN should just throw some money at Balcomb and call it a day.
From what Balcomb has said, she didn't want a job that involved traveling. Wants to be at home with her young kids. The analytics job she has in South Carolina doesn't involve traveling. However, it's a one year contract expiring in July, so who knows for sure.

think TN needs to hire a coach who actively can audition de facto for head position there

Balcomb was in the final 2 for the ODU job. Must've changed her mind on the traveling.

There is a large contingent of LV fans whose hatred of Vandi exceeds their hatred of UConn. I doubt hiring Balcomb would go over well.

One thing the new AD Currie. He hired a good hire for baseball coach. I wonder what he will say.

Law also performed poorly in her time as HC at Illinois and was shown the door with too full years remaining on her contract.
Terrible head coach, great assistant. The same applied to Carlene Mitchell.

Vivian has not produced many head coaches, but a number of very good assistants either played or coached for her (or both).

From my understanding she was the recruiter who landed Evina Westbrook and Rennia Davis so yes she's the outstanding recruiter.

Also she's from Florence, SC so it's good to have her back home :D
I know we are not supposed to speculate about transfers, but keep an eye on this.

That's fine. She IS a very strong recruiter though and we need that.

Dawn is very hands on with our guards/wings.
I was gonna say, she ain't coming to S. Carolina to work with the guards. That's already taken care of.

Law likely grew up a gamecock fan and has family in SC. this is no surprise really. the bigger news is that McCray left. She was a huge part of their success.

Begs couple of questions.

1) Was there any conversation between Law and Cooper regarding where she should transfer?

2) Will any of the signees for Tennessee rethink their move to that school if Law, their main recruiter has bailed?

3) Didn't Illinois have some unpleasantness between the coach and the players? Did Law bail out on the Illini because of any of that? Have I got that wrong?

Yes entirely wrong.

Kudos to Staley. Dawn gets it. If you aren't getting better, you are getting worse. I love what she is doing down there. She is building her program to last.

Make no mistake McCray was a big part of what SC did and was an excellent recruiter but Boyer and Chimel are the engines of the train and Dawn is the conductor. Both Chimel and Boyer are a big reason why we are so successful. They are both really hands on with the players and have a big hand in the offense we run.

Except on the Boneyard, where all failures can be traced back to Frese, JPM, or Warlick. And sometimes Mulkey.
Don't forget the other low hanging fruit: Muffet McGraw.

"Brenda is one of the bright young coaches in the game today. Maryland is very fortunate. She’ll do an unbelievable job of adding to the great tradition that Chris Weller had started there."

"Being closer to my family in South Carolina has been on my heart and mind for some time and a door opened, providing me a chance to do just that and coach in my home state," said Law, who is from Florence, S.C. "I will always be grateful to Holly and everyone at Rocky Top for welcoming me and I hope they'll understand my reasons for putting my family first."

It wasn't just any door that opened either. The Gamecocks are the defending national champions. The opening on their staff also was a good fit for Law. McCray-Penson was their staff's top recruiter. Recruiting is one of Law's strengths, as evidenced by UT signing the nation's top-ranked class last fall.

"It was an opportunity she felt she couldn't pass up," Warlick said in the statement, "and I certainly understand that desire and wish her the very best at South Carolina."

The timing of Law's departure is difficult for Tennessee. The July recruiting period is looming.

Tennessee has two commitments - guard Jazmine Massengill and forward Amira Collins - for its 2018 signing class. Guard Izabela Nicoletti Leite informed the Lady Vols earlier this week, before Law's decision, that she was committing to Florida State. She made a campus visit earlier this month.

I just looked up Amira Collins. It says she's from La Plata MD but went to Paul VI High in Fairfax VA. That is 50 miles, and with DC Beltway traffic could be a 2 hour commute!!!

Where did you hear this? Has it been made public?

Tennessee's new nickname.... South Carolina's farm team.
Seems like both teams fans think they got the good end of the deal so I guess all is well in the SEC.

This is news. Where did you see news about Nicoletti committing to FSU?

Are you referring to Knoxville?

I haven't heard that. I just copied at pasted the article. I know she was visiting Florida State. I haven't heard of aNY comment yet.

Okay. Dan Fleser, the Lady Vols beat writer, included it in his story on Law so he must have heard it from Holly. According to Dan, Nicoletti has committed to FSU.
