Adrien played 5 years in the NBA. Not on our Mt. Rushmore, but certainly on our all-time great Husky list. We have a distinctly different recollection of his mid-range game. Jeff was very dependable from the elbows and generally from 15 feet an in. Had an excellent short game, scoring and rebounding and defending. Of course, mostly, he is likely my first choice to go to war with of all former huskies (runner up to Toraino), and that was likely his greatest attribute.

Another Sam Cassell "Not So" Jr.
Sam Had basketball skill but lacked the athletism to play at our level.
This kid is minimally a very good athlete whose basketball skills are in question. We will soon see.
Unless your point is about incompletness the comparison doesn't appear to be fair.

If I'm being honest here, what I want more than anything is a return to tough-nosed Husky basketball that I fell in love with back in the late 80s. What made us distinct was our perennial capacity to out work, out hustle, out rebound, out defend, and out will our opponents. Sure, there were some years where one or two of those elements was missing, but, in general, we had it.

We lost it somewhere after 2014. I kind of view it as Shabazz broomed out the bar, pocketed the mojo, and locked up on his way out.

I want it back, and I'll take a rag-tag fugitive fleet of players cobbled together from whatever place Ollie can find them if it means that night in, night out, we battle, without somebody's father b-tching about player utilization and without some tall guy who never gave or received an elbow acting like a p----y because he only got 10 minutes of playing time during which he had 1 rebound, 2 points, and 2 turnovers.

I would take Miley Cyrus at this point if she could get 5 rebounds a game. I am betting that this kid can not hit the side of a barn 10 feet out but he will bring some sorely needed excitement to this team.

I always debate this with my friends. I recall Jeff having a knock down foul line J. I've searched quite a bit on the internet to try and find a shot chart to back this up, but never had much luck. I'll always have the Texas A&M game to look back on though.

Yes Adrien's jumper from about 10-15 feet away was good enough for defenders to respect it and guard him that far from the basket. And then when he got the ball in the low post he was pretty unstoppable.

Have seriously always wanted a guy like this on the team. 3 years left, he'll be 25 senior year? BYU eat your heart out.
Lately we have had some players who were built like boys compared to other guys you see around college basketball and they got tossed around. Not sure how good any of these frontcourt guys will be but this dude doesn't look like someone who will be pushed around, neither does Cobb. Will be nice to have some grown men on the team. A dunk in someones grill is worth more than two points in my book as well

You're memory of two of the best players in recent UConn history is a Final Four (!!!) game they lost on the road to Michigan State? Adrien and Thabeet put up a combined 30 and 13 that game with 4 blocks too.

Tough crowd.

they also gave up almost 20 offensive boards.

Raymar Morgan who was so bad for the prior 2 months that there were national articles talking about how bad he was playing, completely dominated them.

I forgot about how bad Adrien and Kemba shot from the FT line. Kemba had a bad day, but obviously he made up for it.

Total rebounding was a push (42-42) and while State had 18 offensive rebounds, we also added 16.

Just seems like a really odd thing to remember a former National Defensive POY and Big East POY and then a 4 year player who made multiple All Big East teams (1st and 3rd) over a lost Final 4 game.

Don't take it personally. It's his new thing. He called me a casual fan on the football board, too. It's like "Confir_ed", but more annoying. Anyone who is a member of the Boneyard is, by definition, not a casual fan.

It's his version of "fetch". Stop trying to make "casual" happen, Chief. It's not going to happen... (insert Rachel McAdams meme here___)

Not being a member of The Boneyard is not my definition of Casual Fan. It is not meant to be a divisive term - it's an affectionate term. I have never been critical of casual fans and I have always welcomed them. While I don't think coed First Night is in the best interest of the team, I have never criticized the casual fan for enjoying the festivities.

My comment was concerning his age when starting his UCONN career, not a comparison between the two as athletes..... This guy can touch ceiling tiles in the Gampel roof while Cassell couldn't clear two stacked tiles lying flat on the floor.

to be fair, it was their only FF (they got cheated out of one run when Price got hurt the year before, never know what that team could've done healthy...even though that joke of a goal tend ended up costing them the game in regulation), and it was as a heavy favorite.

Jessica Moore?
The men on the other hand...
...went to the Great Alaska Shootout in '95.
Maybe this can be a nice boost then if we can establish an Alaskan pipeline for recruits.

Yeah, but considering as a program we've only made 5 in our history, I think it would hold a bit more weight.

It's true that squad came up short in the Big East Championship. Hell I was at school from 05-09 and I think we won 1 game in NY during that time (maybe 0 actually), but that 2009 team for my money is the best UConn team since the 2004 squad.

Wrong board obviously and only referrring to men's UConn Huskies basketball, not to the girls' or ladies' teams. Any Alaskan past UConn Huskies men's team hoopsters, or is Williams a first in Storrs?

You sound like the kind of person who trashes the free continental breakfast because you think you're omelette-worthy. But you aren't.

Is that where we are as a program now? Non omlette-worthy?

I try to like you. I really do. But then you have to burp up one or more of those half dozen distasteful phrases you insist on repeating all the time.

He will be 23 by the time he steps on the court for us. He was a basketball vagabond who probably once thought he would never lace them up for a D1 school but he certainly seems to have matured and has stuck with it.

Do you have a link for his age?
