or anywhere else for that matter. She has instead chosen to pursue a career in modeling.

You really can't make this stuff up. Good luck to her

I wish her luck - but it sounds like she is passing on education for a very "iffy" career. If it doesn't work out, the opportunity for cash-free education will no longer be there.

Is that really her? She's like a cross between Tyra Banks and Halle Berry.

Sounds like she's not academically inclined. It's a dilemma when your natural talents don't match up with what your mind tells you it wants you to be. As Emo Philips said: "I use to think that the brain was the most wonderful organ in my body. Then I realized who was telling me this."

Geez, I hope that Kaleena, Stef, Moriah, et al. don't get any similar ideas. :)

Wow, I remember Texas fans thinking her commitment to LSU was indicative of how much Gail needed to go. After all, if a national top five player from an Austin suburb wasn't coming to UT, how could Texas compete? And although the question was not without merit, this seems like a dodged bullet...

Aahh ... Emo, the only living comedian in Andy Kaufman's league.

There's something to be said for pursuing your passion. IIRC, Krystal has a very misguided few high school years, lived with AAU coaches, etc. I am not sure she has the true backing of someone with her best interest at heart. It's sad to see.

not sure what type of modeling she'll be doing
That's the point, or part of the point.

We have no idea what kind of modeling -- fashion? media advertising? -- or what kind of media or publication, if any, are involved, or who's advising her (and/or who she knows) or what kind of training she expects to receive or how realistic her prospects are.

The fact that we know just about nothing is, as usual, no deterrent to our voicing opinions about the efficacy of her decision.

More details are not really needed since in _most_ cases I would say that giving up a FREE college education is generally not a smart idea.

Yes there are exceptions.
-- Very large guaranteed money (eg, a NBA contract)
-- Incredibly high emotional cost of schooling (eg, *very* not academically inclined)

A very interesting development. I can't imagine any school wanting to take a chance on her at this point if she changes her mind.

Good for her for pursuing her passion. However, IF she's planning on doing print or runway modeling, not only is it a 1 in a million shot to make it, she's even more hampered by the fact that she's 6'4" tall. I don't have the stats handy but i don't think it's going too far out on a ledge to say 99% of the successful models out there are between 5'8" and 6'0" tall. At 6'4", she's WAY outside of the range of even the tallest models who actually work. Clothing designers generally make their garments for girls/women in that height range. She will find it VERY difficult to get any kind of work in that industry.

There are many types of models - those who model body parts (seriously), bikini models, and fitness models to name a few. She certainly could fit into the last category if she so desired...

If, on the other hand, she wants to pursue a career in the fashion industry, unless she starts at an internship through some great connections, her best bet IMHO would be to stay in college and get a degree in fashion design, or fashion merchandising, or some other major related to her passion. I don't know the specifics of her decision or what kind of modeling career she desires, but it's certainly a risky endeavor to give up a 4-year FREE education to pursue something with such a low probability of success. Then again, we have no idea what she's really pursuing so...

It certainly is an interesting twist in her "career" for sure. Going to be interesting to see how it turns out...

Any number of mid tier schools would take a chance on a former top 5 recruit.

I'm rashly assuming she won't be doing 3D CAD/CAM modeling for NASA or General Motors, nor weather modeling for the National Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research.

My interpretation was that JS was agreeing with your point and taking it a step further.

Not aimed at you at all. You said "not sure what type of modeling she'll be doing," which supported a point I wanted to make -- that nobody here knows that or any of the other surrounding circumstances, yet many are prepared to say she's making a big mistake.
