KML watch: career three-pointers made

I think I'd have to say that my three favorite Huskie women of all time are Sue Bird, Svetlana and Maya! There are so many others that I've loved following as well but these three just stand out in my mind.
Maya was 150-4.

Sue was 115-4, I believe.

Not that Sveta lost very often, but Sue and Maya almost never lost.

As great as Dee was, she had 8 losses.

Laurie Koehn in a one-dimensional player, but she's a 3-point machine. She's about as good as it gets. The record of 392 is hers ... for a while.

"Laurie Koehn in a one-dimensional player" . . . If she had played for UConn she would be called a 3pt specialist.

OK, it was 4-6 tonight for KML to drive her career tally up to 298 three-pointers made. That's 13 away from Maya, 20 away from Diana, and 94 away from Laurie.

Still needs to be averaging just about three treys a game to get this record. Can she pass 300 tomorrow against Green Bay? I sure hope so!

She had 14 points on 7 shots. I want to see her taking 15.

It's mind-boggling to think that, without injury and illness, she would have passed the great Maya and Diana in THREE seasons.

Go Kaleena! Green light tomorrow, as usual.

I so would have loved for Maya to get 1 more career game and nail exactly 7 treys against TAMU!

OK folks, KML went 3-5 from behind the arc tonight, thereby increasing her career tally to 301.

She needs to be hitting three treys a game to break the NCAA record, and tonight she did it. Mission accomplished.

Good job! But I want to see her taking 15 shots per game.

I do too. She can't shoot enough as far as I'm concerned.

For tonight, I'm happy she's in the elite company of Maya and Diana, joining them as the only UConn players with more than 300 career treys.

I'm happy too. Can Lou get there too? In 3 years? :)

In today's victory over Notre Dame, KML did not set the world on fire from three-point land, but she did hit two more to get herself up to 303 three-pointer made her career. 89 to go still; she has a shot...a three-point shot, at that!

Once UCONN gets into conference games she will have more opportunities for threes but in less time played.... I think. You know, UCONN builds a 45 point lead and starters sit down 5 minutes into the second half type games. I wouldn't mind Geno playing her a little longer in those games to help showcase her for the draft and give her a shot at some records.

I think Kaleena hit a trey when we were down 10. That helped shift the momentum.

.-.
She still needs to average about 3 per game the rest of the season.....Lets hope she can do it.

Yes- went from 28-18 to 28-21 on that trey.

Latest update after the DePaul game:

KML went 3-6 from three-point land, so she's up to 306 now. That's five behind Maya, 12 behind Diana, and 86 behind Laurie Koehn. Since the ND game, she's needed to average three a game going forward, and she got her three tonight.

I groaned on a couple that she missed because they were there for the making, but she was just off. Ah well- her next game is at Mohegan, and I'm *betting* she has a higher-than-average night against the Bruins on Sunday...

KML watch, indeed. She is a joy to watch.

How about 5 on Sunday?

Not to go off topic, but on the broadcast, they said that Kiah is now top 5 in blocks on the team.

We need to play Loolville a few times; they never cover her.

Well, KML almost came up snake eyes at the casino, but she did eek out a couple of treys to increase her total to 308.

I thought UCLA did a good job covering her and making it difficult for her to be open. Damn them!

SMU, as I recall, didn't play much defense at all last season, so hopefully KML will get some opportunities on Saturday. Of course, Duke is 12/29. She lit Duke up for seven three-pointers last year. Can she repeat that performance?

I expect Coach P to tell her team to guard #23. But that may not be good enough.

Stokes moved ahead of MMoore into 5th with 210 (Moore had 204). Next up is Dolson at 254.

Stewart is at 197. She could end up at #2.

Lobo 396
Wolters 370
Charles 304
Dolson 254
Stokes 210
MMoore 204
Stewart 197

Maya's were of the spectacular variety.

Kiah has a lot on a per minute basis!

So Kaleena is 308 ahead of Lou. :)
Kaleena still has as many as 30 games left so KLS will need to average about 2.5 treys a game to catch up to her. And if K breaks Koehn's record, Lou will need (gasp) 2.6 a game.

I want K to get to 400. Then I want Lou to get to 400.

This afternoon, KML shot a respectable 3-8 (or 37.5%) from three-point land to increase her career total to 311, right alongside Maya. Of course, she missed three wide open shots in the first half that would have gotten her up to 314, but in any case, K got her needed three treys (which as we've discussed, she needs to average for the balance of the season to get to 392).

It was cool to hear the ovation from the crowd when she tied Maya. In other words, the KML Watch isn't exclusively happening in this thread!

Last year, KML returned from injury (after missing eight games) and nailed seven three-pointers against Duke in Cameron Indoor. On Monday, she's got Duke at the XL Center. What will she do?

OK, KML did not set the world on fire from long distance tonight (in fact, she missed several open threes), but she got four of 'em just the same. Kaleena is now within three treys of Diana Taurasi and may just get that record before 2014 comes to a close. We'll see against ECU Wednesday afternoon.

Kaleena has some serious competition. She is NOT the active leader in 3-pointers made. As of last night, Morgan Eye of Missouri has 325. K needs to get VERY hot.

One thing she may have going for her - depending on how far Missouri gets in their conference and NCAA tourney, KML may play more games this year.
