Not to go off topic, but on the broadcast, they said that Kiah is now top 5 in blocks on the team.
Stokes moved ahead of MMoore into 5th with 210 (Moore had 204). Next up is Dolson at 254.

Stewart is at 197. She could end up at #2.

Lobo 396
Wolters 370
Charles 304
Dolson 254
Stokes 210
MMoore 204
Stewart 197

Maya's were of the spectacular variety.

Kiah has a lot on a per minute basis!

So Kaleena is 308 ahead of Lou. :)
Kaleena still has as many as 30 games left so KLS will need to average about 2.5 treys a game to catch up to her. And if K breaks Koehn's record, Lou will need (gasp) 2.6 a game.

I want K to get to 400. Then I want Lou to get to 400.

This afternoon, KML shot a respectable 3-8 (or 37.5%) from three-point land to increase her career total to 311, right alongside Maya. Of course, she missed three wide open shots in the first half that would have gotten her up to 314, but in any case, K got her needed three treys (which as we've discussed, she needs to average for the balance of the season to get to 392).

It was cool to hear the ovation from the crowd when she tied Maya. In other words, the KML Watch isn't exclusively happening in this thread!

Last year, KML returned from injury (after missing eight games) and nailed seven three-pointers against Duke in Cameron Indoor. On Monday, she's got Duke at the XL Center. What will she do?

OK, KML did not set the world on fire from long distance tonight (in fact, she missed several open threes), but she got four of 'em just the same. Kaleena is now within three treys of Diana Taurasi and may just get that record before 2014 comes to a close. We'll see against ECU Wednesday afternoon.

Kaleena has some serious competition. She is NOT the active leader in 3-pointers made. As of last night, Morgan Eye of Missouri has 325. K needs to get VERY hot.

One thing she may have going for her - depending on how far Missouri gets in their conference and NCAA tourney, KML may play more games this year.

Wonder how many games (if any) Ms. Eye lost to injury or illness during her college career. A significant number of games for KML.

Good point. Just looking ahead from this point to speculate on who might finish with more...

Ms. Eye might not have missed any games in the regular season as KML, but certainly her team played less games in the post-season tourneys than KML in the past three years!

Just looked it up. Prior to this season, Morgan Eye had played in 94 Games ( 52 starts), 2707 minutes, and made 283 3-pt field goals. KML played in 104 games ( 65 starts) 3036 minutes , and made 277 3-pt field goals. Although KML shoots at a higher percentage, she has also played more games, and more minutes.

So the difference is that Ms. Eye takes a lot more three point shots than KML for the time played. Obviously has the green light and takes full advantage of it.

You didn't mention the percentage difference. Possible conclusions:

  • Mizz has little else going on offensively and relies on her to keep putting them up; and/or
  • Mizz opponents are not, in general, big on perimeter defense.
If she's shooting a low percentage, that would suggest the first conclusion.

A high percentage would suggest the second, i.e. she's open a lot in the absence of the "you have to know where she is at all times" defensive strategy that should prevail for someone of such notoriety.

Ms. Eye ( I might nickname her Dead Eye) shoots a pretty good percentage. She has made 325 Treys in 813 attempts, for a 40% average. KML has made 315 treys in 717 attempts, for a 44% average. Ms. Eye has taken 96 more 3-pt shots, while playing 362 less minutes than KML.

The record is about the number that was made. There is also a separate record for accuracy. And the record is not tied to how many years/games one player played. (Ms. Tuck could play five years although she is not going to break the 3-point record.)
The race will be between KML(how often will she not be swamped by opponents and Ms. Eye(how deep can she carry her team during the post-season)...It will be a very interesting race.

Well, we know the Morgan Eye wrinkle exists, but back to Laurie Koehn's record:

KML sits at 326 treys for her college career after today's USF game. If she can just average three three-pointers a game going forward she'll be right there.

GO KML!!! It's in you to do it!

Yes, KML has played more (post season) games. Fair to presume that post season games involve teams that play tougher defense. Also, across the season Uconn's strength of schedule tends to be higher than most teams...

Go KML!!

Make that 331 treys for KML, or 61 short of the record. She's got 54 treys in 18 games this season, or an average of exactly 3 per. The record won't be easy, but 392 is still attainable for her.

Agreed that 392 is reachable, but not easy. Plus Morgan Eye might get there first. But I like how K is playing now. 9 treys in 2 games is very solid.

Records are not supposed to be easily broken.

Man, if she had 36 more for the 12 games she missed, she could get to 425.

Based on your numbers and looking at the box scores for Morgan Eye since then I show her with an active total as of this morning of 334 to KML's 331. Since your post Morgan has gone 9-29

Unfortunately , its going to be tough for KML to reach the record...........Only because she plays on an outstanding team. Consider , over the course of the next 10 games or so UConn may experience a few blowouts of the opponent , forcing Geno to rest his starters more. Including KML. Morgan Eye , not being on the calibre of team as KML , is relied upon more and will get rested a lot less giving her more opportunity to reach the record.

All in all , I think KML would rather reach another FF and get a chance at a 3rd NC.

KML will have her scoring totals impacted by playing for UConn just as many other AA's have before her. Team first, individual honors a distant second. It is the price of greatness.

In the upcoming blowouts, if KML shoots 3's in limited minutes like she did last night (5), then she should have a comfortable cushion to offset any 'off' games. I see her cruising to the record regardless of the limited minutes. If Morgan Eye gets hot too, then KML may not be able to keep up with her. But if I were betting (is there a prop bet in Vegas on this?) then I'd go with KML getting the record.
