Kim English OUT as Providence’s HC

Here's a nice kick in the balls.

PC has to go play AT Georgetown Saturday.

PC didn't have the class to wait until after the season to announce this???? Or even after they had to go play Cooley on the road? That's a really, really crappy way to treat a coach that doesn't seem like a bad guy who tried to do everything the best he could cleaning up the mess Cooley left.
PC didn't announce it. Their AD has been looking around and it was leaked.

Kim English comes off as an arrogant p^^^k. I couldn't care less he failed at the job he had no business getting in the first place.

I agree. Every time I hear him speak he sounds like a DB. Not sure why PC hired him since his resume was far from sterling. PC has money to spend on a coach. I’m sure they can do better.

I'd love to grab some of PC's players. They've got some talent.
Same, I just wonder if they've learned such bad habits under Kim English that they will be hard habits to break.

I wouldn’t say punk. But he’s definitely a brown nose kiss ass who sucks up to the Trustees and clergy at PC.

I really like Kim English. He is fiery, passionate, and he cares a lot. But he has 5 years of total experience, has never finished above 5th in his conference, and the only postseason he’s seen is an NIT appearance in 2024

He’d be great as an assistant for a high major or as a mid major coach with room to grow. He’s young so has a lot of upside, just needs time to match the coaching skills with the fire. Not the right fit for a team that expects to make a tournament run right now

If Jamier Jones wants a fresh start somewhere else, I’ll take him in a heartbeat!

Let’s say Luke gets a job this cycle….how realistic is it that Hurley would try and bring English on as an assistant…..good recruiter, Hurley calling him a future star I think is more than just lip service….what do we think?

Cooley routinely made the tournament at Providence. A lot of people here think he stinks but he’s a solid coach. English is the one that just created a mess by going 0 for 3 in getting to the tournament.

You want a guy who has won, not shown the potential to win. Look at Harley’s career path. Every place he was at trended up and won.

Yeah, I'm gonna disagree with that. In the Big East conference, he's 124-143. He won a BE Tourney once in 2014. 5 first rd exits in the NCAA tourney only getting past the round of 32 once.

Other than your general "thoughts" that he's solid what else backs that up?

5 tournament appearances at Providence is solid. I don’t know why you would expect the coach of Providence to routinely get out of the first weekend. They don’t have that kind of history.

That's a fair answer, but PC is providing their coaches great resources, including very good NIL. Providence is a pretty good job and a good coach can take them to a much higher level. They can be as good as your normal Creighton and Marquette teams imo. Cooley seems to have slipped from his best work. I thought he'd make Georgetown pretty good. So far, he's been very disappointing and with the portal, there isn't really a decent excuse in year 3. I suspect they will get better under him, but I don't think anyone is satisfied with the job he's done so far.

Cooley had 7 tournament appearances at Providence, it would've been 8 if the tournament wasn't canceled for Covid in 2020.

What the heck does history have anything to do with it?

Norlander has a new article listing potential new hires around the country. Murray and Young are both on there. Neither would go to a low mid-major but they could get interest if the price is right at a high mid-major or P5. Can't see them coaching against Hurley in the BE though. Same with Bobby as many are speculating he is interested in PC.

If only he'd been able to keep his pants on.

Hoping PC lands a decent coach. It's a program that should be able to be what it was under Cooley.

I don't know. Butler got to the championship game twice from what? The Horizon or A-10?

Great story in the making:

3 SCHOOLS IN 3 YEARS
Pump the brakes Hans- Didn't say anything about 3 schools in 3 years for Richard. I don't see it. Rick has been quoted as saying he would like to see his son succeed him at St J. But I don't see Rick stepping down for awhile. Think he's having too much fun. IMO-Won't be surprised if something happens there in the future as long as Richard continues to build his coaching resume.

Vaaks. 40 miles away there is a home for you
There is no player in college sports I would rather have less than Vaaks. Maybe the most selfish player I have watched in years. Jump over to the PC board to see what they think about him. No D, no facilitating, hunting shots and shoot at a replacement level percentage. Hardest of passes of all time for me, and I cannot imagine Danny wanting him on the team

Brad Stevens
I'm aware of who the coach was. He's a good coach. Cooley isn't. And when he gets canned from Georgetown, he'll con some other school into a contract and underachieve there too.
