Go Kiah! I was most impressed with her demeanor last night. She was directing traffic, calling for the ball- just totally engaged. She looked like a woman on a mission. And she held onto the ball when she rebounded. Nobody was knocking it loose, no sir! Man, I hope she keeps it up!

She's been great. Glad to see her get a lot more playing time. Geno knows she will have an increased role next year.

Noticed her directing traffic and went 'YES!' She only had one assist but it was a beautiful entry pass!

Yes, it looks like she is playing much better and with more confidence. Be nice if Chong and/or Banks could/would make that step also in the next couple weeks. I'm sure they will get some playing time in the early rounds of the tournament, but it would be nice to have them for the later rounds too.

Yep, I was too encouraged by Kiah's play. She seemed more engaged , on a mission , happy to be out there. And did a good Kiah type job of rebounding and changing shots....If that offense EVER shows up , man-o-man , o-man.

Maybe they'll have a MoJeff moment in the final game? I remember she went in during the first half, committed a silly foul and Geno yanked her. In the 2nd half she became the MoJeff we are watching today.

I'm sure that with the overcharged atmosphere, and the pressure defense UL was employing had Geno thinking this was something he didn't want to subject Chong and Banks to at this time.

I have watched the score when Kia comes in the game and I have found
that the majority of times our lead increases when she enters the game.
Even thought she does not score a lot of points she make a big impact
on what happens in the game. I am sure that the coaching staff is also
aware of this. This is a big plus bringing someone off the bench that can
have such an impact on the game.
If you listen to the Louisville coach's comments after the game he
commented on how tough it was to get inside when the three bigs were
in the game. A big factor last night was that Step made it to half time
with only one personal foul. That was a big plus going into the 2nd
half allowing her to play aggressively. She doesn't always make it
through the first half with only one foul.

offensive rebounds, tips, closing out, boxing out... Kiah did well. she was also used to relieve Stef and Stewie from getting into foul trouble

If she can put up a decent scoring game this summer and carry it into next season,we may see another AA develop right in front of our eyes!

Big Kia fan. She really has the physical skills to be a special player for UConn and one that the Huskies would love to have going into the post season and obviously throughout next year.

How about if she makes all conference first?

She really pours her heart out on the floor for sure. My body English was all over the place with her put back there. I think it helped :)

Definitely true! I just re watched the first half. When Kia came in around the 11 minute mark the game changed. Louisville did not have an answer for our 3rd big on either end of the floor

She showed tremendous loyalty by staying at UConn, rather than transferring, even though she received relatively little playing time her first two years. I like her for that reason alone. Her perseverance and loyalty are paying off now that she is a major contributor.

Geno quote from the New Haven Register:

“I knew at some point our defense was going to get settled down, and at some point they were going to stop shooting 70 percent from the floor. We made a couple of adjustments and we changed a couple of things as the game went on, and in the second half we gave them a couple of different looks depending on who they had in the game. When we had Kiah Stokes in the game, it was very difficult to all of sudden get anything inside.”

You just can't stand to see folks get too enthusiastic about Kiah, can you.
Some people only look at scoring.

Kia is as good a rebounder as there is in the country.

She averages 1 rebound every 2.6 minutes.

Better than Dolson.
Better than Stewart.
Better than Chiney.

Kia is as good a shot blocker as there is in the country.

She averages 1 rebound every 7.6 minutes.

Better than Dolson.
Better than Stewart.

Leading shot blocker Hamson BYU - 122 blocks, 1 rb every 7.3.

Her potential is AA.

Ummm... did we not already discuss this obsession you have with actual statistics...

I love Kia she is my favorite player and agree she looked great the last two games.
I'm sure she won't get any consideration for defensive player in conference since she doesn't average a ton of minutes but tell me how many other players is better then her? Besides her per minute statistic (thanks doggy) she just completly changes the game when she is in there.....I don't know what I like better the way she swats a shot yet so effortlessly keeps control of the ball, or manning the lane and seeing a player try to get in the lane, see her go "oh crap"and turn right around!
I hope she continues to build her game and confidence and think she can be a beast next year and maybe win defensive player award (and possibly more as I think she will have much more opportunity to score without Stef)

Just watched the replay of the first half
Kiah had the ball in the high post several times, her defender nowhere in sight (well backing off)
and she looked to pass.
She has to rumble straight to the hoop in that situ.
Scare the heck out of a whole lot of defenders.
Open up the court for everyone else.

yeah UConn could have used those 2 pts

Gotta agree with msf, DC. It's a mindset and Kiah is a big, strong body that could dominate the paint if she could just think, "Can I get to the hoop?" before passing. We need her to step up next year and this year is a great time to start thinking 'score first'.

I think she's really stuck on setting picks and handing the ball off... running whatever play is called. if she tries to do her "own thing" and dribble from the high post into the paint and that ball rolls off her foot... doghouse would be her next move (unless Geno encourages her to do so, who knows)
