This doesn’t guarantee her a spot on the WBCA team. It happened before in 2008 or 2009 I believe. Risper or something like that from Vanderbilt.
To be even more technical and split the hairs even finer (if you want).... The NDPOY is a regular season award so Gabby and Kia would not qualify either.Gabby and Kia were not NDPOY when Moriah was on the team. Technically Kia and Gabby are the only two to have receive the award and on the team. Moriah was NDPOY bit Gabby and Kia were NDPOY to be at the time.
When is the official WBCA AA announcement made?
Even UConn. My question is, has UConn ever had 2 players who both received the NDPOY while they were still playing together, as opposed to after one had already graduated? If by another team you mean besides UCONN, the answer is no. Keep in mind that this WBCA award has only been around since 2007.
You are correct! A kill joy and wet blanket but still correct. This doesn’t guarantee her a spot on the WBCA team. It happened before in 2008 or 2009 I believe. Risper or something like that from Vanderbilt.

No.Even UConn. My question is, has UConn ever had 2 players who both received the NDPOY while they were still playing together, as opposed to after one had already graduated?
Yup, for two whole games! However the question was were they on the same team with no stipulation as to regular or post season. Gabby and Kia are indubitably on the same team having both received the NDPOY award.
Sometime today. See below quote from this article: WBCA ANNOUNCES ALL-REGION NOMINEES FOR 2018 NCAA DIVISION I COACHES’ ALL-AMERICA
"The 2018 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America team will be announced Thursday, March 29, during the WBCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio."
Yes!
WBCA DPOY has never been excluded from WBCA AA team.
Kia on Huskies Wall of Honor!
As predicted by me.
We will find out soon enough. I sure hope she's an AA. She deserves it, but we UCONN fans are blessed to see her play every day. Her modest offensive numbers compared to others out there may tip the scale in their favor... Of course, not only is she the DPOY, but also one of the most elite 3-point shooters in the nation. She's on my AA team for sure!!Not to doubt your accuracy Coco, but are you absolutely certain that no NDPOY has ever been left off the WBCA 1st team?
You are correct! A kill joy and wet blanket but still correct.
Jennifer Rispert of Vandy won WBCA DPOY in 2009 and was not on the WBCA AA team.
Well that's one way of looking at it but I have some rose colored glasses on and to me we have had 2 NDPsOY for 2 seasons.Yup, for two whole games!

Some BY'ers actually "liked" this post?
Well, I don't care how many hairs get split or how many technicalities are cited, I'm just so happy for Kia, that every post on this thread gets like.![]()

Those are obviously not rose colored glasses. They are clearly American flag blue.Well that's one way of looking at it but I have some rose colored glasses on and to me we have had 2 NDPsOY for 2 seasons.
Gabby was the 2016-2017 NDPOY and Kia is the 2017-2018 NDPOY, so from 2016-2018 we have had 2 on the same team.![]()
. Nothing wrong with having them, the real problem is that by never taking them off, things become skewed.it appears that Jennifer Risper of Vandy was DPOY and did not make the AA team...![]()

I don't think it's automatic, even if it should be. We all hope so and are rooting for it, but regardless this is a tremendous award and one very well deserved.Great news for 2 reasons.
1. She is recognized nationally for her ability to play defense, the BEST in the country!!!
2. I'm assuming that being recognized as NDPOY means she is automatically included in the 10 member group of AA, and thus becomes eligible for admittance into the prestigious "Huskies of Honor", and have her #11 jersey mounted on the wall in Gampel along with the other UConn greats that preceded her. Am I right or wrong in making this assumption?![]()
How can you not like a fella that toots his own horn!Yes!

Kia's been a BA since she first stepped on the court 4 years ago.I was very impressed with this photo and what it represents. Then I had a thought..Kia is one BAD-ASS!!!! She's been a BA over the course of the entire year. A player that Geno could depend on to shut down an opposing team's best non-post player on defense, while exuding a calming effect to her teammates on offense. This is a much deserved award for Kia, a rare 4 year starter at UConn. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you're an opposing player, Kia Nurse is the last player you want guarding you.![]()

There's a saying I heard years ago. "I don't take any crap. I don't give a crap. I'm not in the crap business."
Kia sure doesn't take any crap and she sure isn't in the crap business. As Meatloaf crooned, "Two out of three ain't bad."

Regardless has UConn ever had a defensive player of the year not make the Wall? Interesting to know of only 1st Team AA is the criteria as I feel DPOY is even harder to get IMO.Kia’s own father called her “A nasty piece of business.”
