Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

I agree they'll remain along with the Big East but I absolutely see the Big 10 and SEC breaking away to form a power 2 for football.
They won't. They receive far too much cover under the NCAA umbrella that would be lost if they broke away. They have already basically isolated football revenues (FBS level) away from the NCAA. They are well on their way towards further stratification of the top two conferences vs everyone else in FBS. What would breaking away provide them that they won't already have?

They're not going to isolate/create something without UConn, Nova, Louisville, Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Baylor etc. I also don't believe the 2 power conferences will absorb all the basketball brands.
Of course they will. Once they freeze uconn out why would players come to connecticut?

It's just not enough schools in enough places to make it viable. I just listed some of the states that would be left out, but beyond that, the whole transfer ecosystem would be severely reduced.

This would have repercussions for the NFL as well since the D2 schools (i.e. Colorado, Utah, Arizona) would have an AAC level of money to work with.

Essentially, the P2 would need to go back to 110 scholarships to make it all work.
The need for scholarships has been obviated by NIL. You're talking about something that no longer matters

I think you missed the part where I wrote half the NIL Portal recruiting base would be gone if everything were reduced to the P2.

So what was the whole 110 scholarship thing about?

If you've reduced the number of viable teams, you're still going to have to bring players in through the portal. Those players are not going to be coming anymore from the league's outside the new structure. Or very few of them will. They just won't have the support and training they used to have. One way to address that is to offer more scholarships, like they used to before the 85 player rule.

After the basketball game, I open up the-boneyard and see I have 5 unread pages on the Key Tweets thread. So, I figured something might be up with conference realignment. But,...nope.

LOL. According to who.

The are self validating. They are the best because they say so.
It's not even just self validating. The narrative gets pushed from the networks too. And of course it would. Those are their properties. They want to consolidate and if they consolidate then the networks will push it as the "real" league. They did it with P5 and they'll do it with P2. Just wait for them to crown the winner of the B1G vs SEC playoffs as the national champion. That's all it will take.

It's monopoly type stuff. There will forever be a glaring example of the way you crookedly rigged things. It will be brought up over and over. You killed the best team by collusion, this makes your antitrust case weak.

There's a big difference here. The P5 still had openings for other conferences, still a part of the same ecosystem even if the money wasn't the same.

They are like self appointed tin pot dictators. College sports is dumb.

There are times the last couple years when I have felt stupid for caring as much as I do. But then the off season comes, a new schedule comes into focus, some changes to the staff and the roster are made and then hope springs again… like clockwork.

They're going to create a basketball tournament and leave all the best basketball programs out of it. Okay, buddy.

I thought so. No, that's incredibly tone deaf. Scholarships don't matter anymore and adding them doesn't actually do much. Its not going to stop a player on the lower end from going to Towson.

Yes, yes they will. In three years after that UConn will not matter. Why would players come if they can't play against the "best" on a regular basis.

edit: You are stuck thinking that you matter. Reality is, sorry to the basketball board, in a power 2 world you just don't. They will split off, next 5-10 years. UConn could be number 1 at the time. They'll just do it. Sure they can't do it today, but they'll do it as soon as they can.

I don't know why this is so difficult for you.

A Towson player doesn't get the support or training that a Florida player does.

So now if you limit the money to 36 schools, a lot more players are going to be outside the structures where they get support and training, and play and practice against top competition.

This makes for fewer good players available in the portal.

You don't get it at all, when all players are getting a 300K nil then what is a scholarship?

It's a lot less.

Presumably they must be enrolled.

If they don't get a scholarship, then they're paying $70k at state schools, more at privates.

They end up in the red.
