I believe Mora has been hinting for quite some time that a move is in place.

My guess is UConn fans in CT and UConn fans in other places in the country will pick the game or two in the locations they want to visit or are closest to...

I pointed out the Big East has the best locations in the country, IMO. I'm a city person and NYC, Chicago, DC, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Providence all appeal to me but I've been to all of them and I choose to go to the Chicago game because I can take a train there and the Milwaukee game because it's a close drive and I make an overnight out of it. If UConn is in the Big 12 and I want to go to an away game Lubbock and Stillwater would be at the bottom of my list because I like a lot of those other locations more but if the game matters most in Stillwater or Lubbock I would have no problem going there for a game. OKC is an hour drive from Stillwater, easy flight there and I like OKC.

Also, you can get alcohol in Provo...

I was talking about Storrs. Why? Because the post I responded to compared it to B12 locales. I've already stated the 3 out of the way places I've been to as being below Storrs.

I've been to the cities you mention (Dallas, Houston) which I consider decent destinations. When people were discussing Houston last spring, I was one of the people saying that I was positively impressed and/or surprised by it.

I specifically mentioned the out of the way locales as being bleak. As in, much of the town seemed composed of shotgun shacks. Big country western bars south of campus, but otherwise one restaurant in the center of town. The kind of town center you might see a tumbleweed roll down. North of campus, a strip of McMansions, oil money. As for Ames, when I passed through, they were super excited about the Krispy Kreme that came into town. And yes, it too was flat and bleak all around. I don't know what to tell you but I suspect you wont be seeing many fans at away games at these 3 places.

ESPN owns the media rights to FSU & Clemson. There is no way they can leave the ACC, especially for the B1G which ESPN has zero stake in.

We haven't been strung along at all. Anyone with realignment situational awareness knows we were always behind the Corner 4 and ahead of every other G5. If an odd number of Corner 4 schools bolted, we would be in. If none or an even number bolted, we would be out. We are Plan B and always have been.
 
From the beginning all of the talk has been about the 4 corner schools going to the Big 12. This conference realignment stuff for UConn reminds me of the Patriots saying that they were moving to CT!

ESPN does not own the media rights to Clemson and FSU, the ACC does. The ACC schools did not sign their GoR with ESPN, they signed it with the ACC who then leased their rights to ESPN (and Raycom). If a school leaves, the only thing ESPN can do is change the contract as the terms of the agreement were changed (a school left).

If the rumored payout by FSU and Clemson to leave the ACC is correct ($300 million each broken up evenly over 10 years), that would more than cover what ESPN might take away. Could ESPN leverage the ACC by dropping the contract down to an unacceptable level? Sure, but Disney is in no financial position to fight anything right now.

Do I believe the rumor? Not really, it came from one of the CR Twitterati.

How so? Mora has been more subtle but he has been clear and consistent with his tone since early spring. What’s different is the person some posters choose to listen to.

Disney is cutting costs and eliminating content everywhere they can. I am not sure what management wants anymore. To me, it seems they are moving more towards the pros and partnering with each league for additional content. My guess is if they can just get rid of the acc contact they would in a second.

But I imagine the natural beauty of Storrs is better. I agree with you, Storrs is no destination location. Could see people going to Sturbridge & Treehouse if staying close. But we’d be near the bottom as a location.

I've never been to Ames but what exactly does it have going for it that Storrs doesn't? As 20 year olds we didn't need, and couldn't afford, much more than kegs, eggs, burgers, and bonfires. Storrs isn't one of those towns turning into what every other urban area has become, stacked with the same national chains as every other city. To me that is more college town than anything else. From a student perspective. Minus the football stadium of course. Plus, you are close to lakes, the ocean, and casinos for the kids who can afford to drop some cash.

It seems today more and more people are taking up healthier lifestyles and activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, etc. Storrs has it all! :cool:

A proper College Town has a downtown with restaurants, bars, breweries, live music venues and independent shops. Should have a movie theater. Ideally also grocery stores and a Target/Walmart.

I get that and Storrs does have some more activity now. But a proper university also provides those things, at a much more affordable rate. Including Debbie Does Dallas in Monteith on a Thursday night! I jest. And the people who want their kids to get out of the big city, Storrs is your place.
Home delivery is replacing trips to Target & Walmart.

Mora has said if we move it's a good thing. He hasn't said that if we move it because of the rest of the big East or that our hands are tied and we're being forced to move.
 
I would think if the board of regents voted AZ or ASU to the big 12
last night it would have leaked by now.

My colleague from ISU loves it and proud of it. Been to Manhattan ksu a few times but never stayed in town. Also a rural scenic campus with hills.
