Read the cited article. ESPN: Report: $100M for football schools

Big East football schools will get almost all of a $110 million pot in a deal that will allow seven departing basketball schools to keep the name Big East and start playing in their own conference next season, a person familiar with the negotiations says.

The Yahoo article (Wetzel) does say history but doesn't source it anyway. It's wrong. You can't buy or sell history. It just is.

So why does the Big East include all the history in their media guide and the AAC does not? Maybe you should sue if the Big East is not entitled to it.
 
Honest question - who cares what conference is allowed to include 'history' on the webpage.

The deal was for the name and the cache that comes from it.

Lol, so you are saying that 3 of UConn's 4 national championships are "owned" by the New Big East, a conference that didn't exist when they were won? Kind of silly don't you think?

Maybe it would be better just to proud of the single one that's been earned while the conference has been in existence.

Thats a good question, I could care less. Just answering a question. It seems to me this has become about being correct and to not appear what was said was false. NONE of this matter now, that ship left years ago.

I'm simply saying that the BE does indeed say that those NC's were achieved by a BE school and that the BE is still alive and kicking, as someone else says its more about trying to say that the BE never ceased to exist and is still the same conference. UConn owns their own championships and the BE simply says they were a member of that conference when they won them. Click on the media guide I linked it's all there. You are saying they have no right to claim whats in the media guide. With the amount of lawyers involved in the break, my guess is that you are incorrect.

To articulate this further, You say the Big East didn't exist before 2013 essentially. I ay the BE purchased the right to say they have always been there as they are now, which is exactly what they claim in all their published and posted materials.

The Big East can "say" whatever it wants. It doesn't change the fact that UConn has been in the same conference since 1979 and the new Big East is a new conference formed what in 2014? Think about this, the American owns the NCAA credits from the Old Big East. It didn't buy them. It owns them because it was the conference in which the member schools earned them. Pretty clear right?

You guys paid $110 million to buy a name. I think it was a smart move for you since the bulk of you earned nothing in the Big East, you just lived off the success of the marquee schools. I get if PC had more success it wouldn't be an issue for you. If your only sense of identity is that others schools in your former conference were actually pretty good, I guess it makes sense that you'd want to hold on to that.

In any event, thanks for the $110 million.

If you're allowed to purchase your own facts, you might want to think about buying a few more NCAA tournament wins.

In reality, Providence, along with the other Catholic schools, left the Big East. They left. They departed. The Big East broke up. You guys bought the name, and you tell yourselves you're entitled to the league's history even though the schools that provided the lion's share of it are gone. It's not the same league. Outside of NBE fans telling themselves it is, no one with any understanding of the college basketball landscape considers it the same league. How could they? The best teams all left.

As a reminder, you're in this league.

You used to be in this league with a lot of better schools.

Unlike other times I won't engage as I know it's a touchy group here and it gets me nowhere. Putting down PC will only get you so far in any argument. Seems appropriate maybe even feels good to some of you but in the end it doesn't accomplish anything to advance your opinion.

Depends on when you start your history by the way. I know it goes against the grain here but some other schools did a few things to advance the BE besides the Huskies although the last 15 years of the conference was all you honestly.

And no one will care if Providence doesn't like it, because your TV partners are tired of paying for you guys to play basketball on TV with no one watching. You think it's yours? Providence is completely irrelevant. You've got a major network ponying up too much money to put a league with no fans on TV. If we decide we want to go to the New Big East, Fox will make sure it happens, because unlike Providence and most of the teams in the New Big East, UConn generates money. The opinions of a few salty, butthurt Providence losers won't matter any more than Providence athletics usually matters.

It's certainly not mine. We already did what we had to do. You may be correct that it's Fox's but it certainly is not yours either. If it was this board wouldn't exist.

I can't tell if you're really illiterate or if you just like to be obnoxious. The decision to move into the Big East would be UConn's because the Big East is full of a bunch of tiny schools with no fans, and Fox needs to add a team that people might actually watch. That obviously has nothing to do with the ACC/B10/B12. Do you understand now?
