  • UNC and the SEC have shared values. When UNC president Peter Hans sought to explain the recent UNC debacle where athletes were found not to have attended classes. SEC conference commissioner Greg Sankey commented "Your mistake was bothering to schedule classes at all. No classes, no classes to miss."

Memphis had tutors doing the homework for their athletes. The SEC thinks they are inefficient try hards.

When asked, perennial football superpower UNC had this to say about interest in the SEC.

The SEC's financial strength and athletic dominance, particularly in basketball and football, are is seen as a motivating factor.

There we go. Just needed to tidy that up a bit. Spit spot.

This is what happens when some of your best members upgrade to FBS or move to the Patriot League.

I read a rumor elsewhere that the southern schools might be on their way out.
Yup. I'm about to write a really crazy sentence but here it goes:

Adding Sacred Heart is about creating stability for the conference.

Perennial football superpower... UNC?
maybe I should have added a /s at the end? More a shot at them thinking the competitive football landscape is alluring to them since both sides of our lines dogwalked them around the freedom trail last November December.

Not sure if this has been shared - welp. When Umass FB is doubling you in viewership, you know you've hit rock bottom.

Do the numbers reflect just home games or the away games where Umass is playing teams like Georgia on the road? That would distort the figures by a large amount I would guess.

Fake classes or not UNC sees the writing on the wall. Time to make sure they get a life raft when they still can.

How is this possible?

I have been told repeatedly it’s. All. About. Football. Than why UNC? They can’t even beat us. They are not good in football.

Their brand is based solely on their men’s hoop program so I guess basketball brand does matter when they want it to.

1 - UNC is the flagship and biggest brand in one of the two traditional southern states that the SEC does not have a presence in.

2 - As limited as their football brand may be, it is still well above and beyond what we have as a football brand.

3 - Their academic status (even with the no-show classes) is such that the B1G will be every bit as interested in them as the SEC. They may actually have sufficient leverage where they could choose which P-2 becomes their home.

I have every reason to believe that UNC will rise to the occasion.

Yes, they are a mid level D1 football program at best right now.

But they will have ample opportunity to elevate things to where they will be a mid level SEC program.

Which is a big step up.

Esteemed state flagship in a growing state with a big overall brand - good business is about potential, not looking backwards.
