It does mean something when taken in conjunction with this statement. "Ollie said when recruits ask where he'll be in 4 years: 'I'm going to be the #UConn coach, nothing has changed." So either you believe Ollie is an outright liar about what he is telling recruits or he is a liar to the recruits. I have seen no evidence that Ollie is a liar and much evidence he is a man of his word. I will take him at such and it seems most with no evidence to the contrary should as well.

I think coaches say whatever the recruit wants to hear. That's just the nature of the profession, for good or bad.

The best part of this is going to be when he signs the new contract and everyone digs through it to figure out why it's proof that he still might leave, and that nothing is settled until all of the pro jobs are filled. And then when all of the pro jobs are filled, he still might leave next year.

I'm just saying that these quotes don't in any way indicate a change in the situation. Whatever percentage probability we assigned to him leaving (5%? 10%?) is no different than what it was yesterday.

I was merely responding to those who said "OK, that settles it". I'm disagreeing and saying that we haven't learned any new information.

The quotes don't settle anything, but I disagree that we haven't learned any information from them.

First, we learned that he and UConn haven't really sat down to discuss the details yet.

Secondly, we learned that he cares enough to put this stuff out there. That says something in and of itself imo, and is also a contrast with UConn, which I don't believe has commented directly at all in at least a few weeks.

Finally, we learned that KO has two ears. Only 7,488 body parts to go until we have a full inventory on him.

That still leaves the Lakers and Knicks, two major-market franchises willing to spend money, with a coaching vacancy and a very small and unimpressive list of unemployed NBA coaches to choose from.

Sure he could make more money in the NBA, but the chance to coach as his alma mater and build his own legacy (and with an NCAA title already under his belt)? Apparently sources have told the courant the main sticking point to the new contract is the money penalty for opting out. Right now Ollie would have to pay $2.55 million to uconn if he opted out

So he is talking of a new contract but he also wants to keep his options open...gulp

Turns out Steve Kerr is also in the picture, Mr Kerr is now the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. I swear they did that on purpose. Of all the pictures of Steve Kerr, they had to use one of home and Kevin Ollie.

Kerr's contact is reportedly for 5 years @ 5 mil per. If an NBA job is offered to KO especially from a big market team we have to assume it would be for at least that much. That may be to much to turn down.

I disagree. I actually found Kerr's contract to be promising that Ollie would return. First off, the Warriors were desperate. They missed out on their top guy(SVG) and were aware of Kerr's negotiations with the Knicks. If we read between the lines of the Knicks unwillingness to give Kerr 4-5 years, I highly doubt any team in a rebuilding mode(Lakers) would go that far with Ollie. If UConn offers more years at 3plus per, I doubt Ollie leaves for 5 mil. He could coach for life at UConn or atleast the duration of a new 7-10 year deal. In the NBA, he may be out in 3.

If he signs an 8-year, $22mm deal at UConn, he's solidified his family's future. In fact, given how much money he already made playing, he's already solidified his family's future. If Ollie leaves UConn, it won't be about his family.
