Neill Ostrout ‏@NeillOstrout 32m
Ollie on NBA possibilities: "I have two ears. I'm going to listen. ... But nothing's changed."

Neill Ostrout ‏@NeillOstrout 28m
Ollie says his contract talks with UConn are progressing but has yet to really "sit down" and talk about things.

William Paxton‏@wspaxton
Ollie said when recruits ask where he'll be in 4 years: 'I'm going to be the #UConn coach, nothing has changed. ......

William Paxton‏@wspaxton
More Ollie: .... I'm not looking for a job I keep telling everyone. ... I want to be here at University of Connecticut.'

Yeah, but what does it mean.

There are now approximately 10 threads on the first 3 pages about roughly the same topic. C'mon folks, an even dozen (or more) is well within sight!!!

He's probably not going to say anything of value to my question I would have asked next but I would have asked him if there's any truth the reports he's haggling on a rich exit fee consider the comments he just made.

I agree that the speculation is a bit crazy, and his comments are what I'd expect the current head coach to say, even if he were to announce tomorrow that he's leaving to coach OKC, or something crazy like that. Still, from a fan's perspective, I know we'd all feel a lot better if his contract were renegotiated permanently and all this other stuff could be put to bed. Of course, neither Warde nor Kevin are obligated to do anything to appease us raving lunatic fans! ;)

no kevin, the jobs are looking for you. these quotes are meaningless.

Agreed.

It's not like KO has to submit a resume to an NBA team for crying out loud.

I'll take him at his word and not get into the semantics too much, but until he signs a long term deal with a sizeable buy out, I'll be concerned.

KO is being smart with these quotes, he knows he's leaving the door open for himself which is fine if he wants to, but as a UConn fan I have every right to nit like that!

I disagree. His intent is meaningful to me, and I take him at his word. He has given zero reason not to.

But they need to appease recruits and their families.

These quotes are literally meaningless.

"I'm not looking for a job" doesn't mean anything, because the NBA teams are contacting him, not the other way around. Just because KO isn't actively looking to leave (which is really all he says), doesn't mean he's going to stay.

Anyone who doesn't think this ends the discussion of an NBA departure this year is beyond paranoid and I fear for your mental sanity

It's unlikely that he leaves, and it always was unlikely. But to say that these quotes, which might as well have been cooked up by an agent or PR firm, "end the discussion" about whether he's open to leaving for the NBA is just naive.

most of you listen to politicians too much. they say one thing do another. most smart people know they will say any thing to win votes or look good with the media. KO is not a politician, maybe we should just take him on his word that he wants to stay at UCONN. now I know some of you will say I'm naive. I believe him..

I do as well but that doesn't mean he's a lock to stay.

If he leaves now he would literally slap Calhoun in the face. Be a complete liar MANY times over to the school, fans, current players, and future players. This would forever tarnishing his reputation in Connecticut and as a UConn Husky. His "ten toes in"slogan would become an ABSOLUTE JOKE. Everything he has said about the UConn players sticking with the program when the program needed them will also become a joke. He would leave the school hanging in the AAC and risk the demise of UConn mens basketball. He would have to move away from his family when he has already missed a lot of time with them due to his 13 year NBA career. Do I need to say more?

Down the road he may leave. But leave right now? NO way that happens. He's not going to 100% deny rumors until he has locked in a very lucrative contract because he would lose a lot of leverage in his negotiations.

It's hard to set a Boneyard record for hyperbole, but this is in the running.

It does mean something when taken in conjunction with this statement. "Ollie said when recruits ask where he'll be in 4 years: 'I'm going to be the #UConn coach, nothing has changed." So either you believe Ollie is an outright liar about what he is telling recruits or he is a liar to the recruits. I have seen no evidence that Ollie is a liar and much evidence he is a man of his word. I will take him at such and it seems most with no evidence to the contrary should as well.

Bingo.

Is it possible that KO will go down in history as the fastest fall from hero to goat by leaving us now for the NBA? After giving recruits, us and everyone else the clear impression that he is staying?

Yes, history teaches us that anything is possible. But it doesn't teach us to disregard common sense and judgment based on our own observations when dealing with someone of character.

I'm just saying that these quotes don't in any way indicate a change in the situation. Whatever percentage probability we assigned to him leaving (5%? 10%?) is no different than what it was yesterday.

I was merely responding to those who said "OK, that settles it". I'm disagreeing and saying that we haven't learned any new information.
