Great and fun game. As of right now, Tenn is for sure a 3 seed. Not close to a 2 seed. If they keep going this way, they might end up a 4 seed and have to fact (hopefully) UCONN in the sweet 16. Depending on how NC State does (PSU just won), I'd expect Tennessee to drop to 11 or 12 when the next rankings come out...

Those of you taking shots at Russell, note she didn't miss a shot today.

didnt matter did it?

Well I was amazed they were able to weather the fouls. 5 players with 3 and 2 with 4. They got very little from Walker today. Two very anemic offenses. One play by KY really illustrated how poor they can be. They had a nice little lead with 12 seconds in the first half and pushed the ball up the floor to drive to the basket losing the ball on the drive. They had 12 seconds to work with and had to force it.
Then TN brings it back down and ends up getting to the line with .3 sec left in the first half shooting free throws to get closer. As well as a KY player getting their 3rd foul. Just crazy decision making.

Maybe. Penn State is 11th with 5 losses, so voters might not move them below PSU.

That's just dumb basketball and not smart BBIQ. Did Mitchell call a TO? I know Geno would have. It's one reason why it's great that UCONN has players with really high BBIQ, and Nurse and Ekmark coming in next year are off the charts in that category as well...

Good point but Tennessee has <gasp> 5 losses as well. Not what you would have expected for the preseason #3 or 4 team in the nation, and a team all their fans felt could win a NC this year... or at least come very close...

I saw a few plays that you'd highlight in a loss - I think it was Stallworth outside the arc with only 5 seconds left, so she decides to drive and just runs into a player, without even attempting a shot.

Thee, in closing seconds, Izzy take a tough shot, it is tipped, KY comes down with the rebound, it should be KY ball with a 4 points lead but Izzy grabs the ball out of her hands, scores, gets fouled and it is a one point game.

Luckily,t hey won, but those are the types of plays that drive coaches nuts if they lose a close game.

They won an NC with ten losses once, so it isn't over. However, that team wouldn't have lost to this KY team. I have no idea what happened to the KY team that started the season. This isn't it.

we're spoiled... and Mitchell doesnt put any fear in them, him and Jen has a "complicated" relationship

Apples and oranges, really. The 10 losses happened around point guard Kelly Jolly's injury/absence. Unfortunately for the LVs, there is no stalwart like Jolly on the roster this year.

In their prior four games TN hit:
  • 7 threes against ARKANSAS
  • 7 threes against Alabama
  • 7 threes against Ole Miss
  • 7 threes against VANDERBILT

So today they hit...one?

. And no all-time great like Chamique Holdsclaw, either.

Their strategy, correctly IMHO, was to get the ball to Harrison. She had a great game. Ky has better guards, so not too much a surprise that they had better perimeter defense. Also some foul trouble for Simmons and carter.

This is a Kentucky team that since the first of the year has lost to South Carolina (not a bad loss), Georgia, Alabama. and Florida twice…anyone I''m missing?
Give me a break.

In her post game presser CHW said: "defense wasn't important for us today." That has been a pretty frequent complaint of hers. You may recall that for the first half of the season she said that was their practice emphasis. Tenn has certainly underachieved. The 22 turnovers are pretty bad too.

Remember UT is still playing without massengAle, arguably their bedtime player and as the pg, the most important. Carter has done a stellar job in her place, but she is not of the same quality.

Fair enough. But UCONN was without KML and Tuck when they stomped top 10 teams PSU and Maryland. We are now without Tuck for the rest of the year, KML is out for a while, and Banks got about 1 minute in the game today. My point is, UCONN is now without 1 AA, their 1st player off the bench, started a freshman and 2 sophomores, and has 1 scholarship bench player for the moment...

Is this a typo, or is there some sports analogy I haven't heard?

Tenn with all that talent and height loses again. Poor guard play, poor ball handeling and poor defense. For those asking about UConns bench. Tenn has a very good bench and what does it prove.

That the Tenn starters can miss a lot of shots and not get tired?

Kara mentioned the other day that Carter is a much more fundamentally sound PG than Massengale who if you consider her HS credentials is one of the busts of the year, injuries or not.

Finally someone is looking to feed the posts for easy shots.

Very true. We just don't have that "clutch" player and we haven't since CP3. I still think coaching has a lot to do with our issues this year. I mean a preseason ranking of #3 and look where we are at now. We brought in a couple of recruits who I thought would really contribute and make us better this year, but sadly that's not the case. Burdick has been quite of a disappointment in my mind..she had a couple of games where she finally decided to open it up a little and shoot some threes. She's basically still one dimensional on the offensive side. She is a good rebounder though, but was she worthy of being one of the top 3 rated players in her class? I just think she was a bit overranked, or you could blame the coaches for not coaching her up and making her a better player at the college level. I hope this doesn't happen with Russell as well..

I went to the game today and we had 15000 plus in attendance. My brother even came and he isn't even a big Lady Vol fan, but he still wanted to show his support. He is a fan of the men's team, but their not exactly world beaters either lol. It's just a major let down that we can have such a huge fan presence and the team lays a stinker. They didn't play good defense, and I thought the coaching was sub par..These are two things that have been frequent problems for our team.

What I can appreciate about Geno coached teams is he expects accountability and he recruits players who fit well into his system. Maybe I'm being to hard on Holly...this is only her second year. Maybe she needs more time to get comfortable in the role of a head coach. I hope we can come around and once again be an elite team and not go the way of La Tech, Texas, Texas Tech and Old Dom. I think us being in the SEC really helps keep us relevant, but if Holly starts losing the recruits, we are in big big trouble..Ok sorry about the rant, but it's been a rough day lol..Good luck though Huskies, I think an undefeated UConn and and undefeated ND playing for a national championship would be one he ll of a game to watch

You nailed it Tony, and I would add poor coaching as well
