I don't know what to expect from Villanova. Willard is clearly a massive upgrade, but the roster is underwhelming, at least on paper. The frontcourt is weak-- they may need to run 3-4 guard/wing sets. Acaden Lewis better be special. And veteran guard Devin Askew isn't expected back from injury until December. For what it's worth, I do like the Matt Hodge kid. He looked good last year before the NCAA shut him down.

Hope I'm wrong. BE needs Villanova and Georgetown to be relevant nationally.

They do have a PG, just have no idea who this Sellers kid is.

I don't see Kansas of the last couple years. That team was super flawed because of 3 players, Dickinson, Adams & Harris that Self couldn't move off. I'd agree their ceiling may not be as high as a guy like Parrish likes to think, but their floor is also high because of talent, athletecism, defense & coaching.

That’s not how defense works. The first Pitino SJ team wasn’t great defensively because they didn’t have the personnel. Pitino can’t work magic. I don’t see a high and defensive team here. I just see Pitino worship.

Calling Sellers a pg is laughable. The most assist he’s ever averaged is 1.3 a game. Their only actual pg is Darling, whose coming off the bench and is another defensive liability.

They have a bunch of guys who are not used to sharing the rock. They won’t suck. But I’ve seen them listed as final four contenders. Insanely overrated imo. I think they’re much closer to Creighton than they are to UConn. Well find out soon enough

Who’s “this board”? No one would’ve been happy with Dylan Darling as our pg.
 
I'd be hard pressed to see this Uconn roster anywhere outside of top 5-6 anywhere. I'd expect them to be 4ish in just about any preseason ranking.

Take a look at the F4 last year and tell me how many PGs were on those 4 teams.

Pitino year one was a rushed roster. This one was hand selected and with time given they lost early in tourney.

Walter Clayton(4.2 apg)

Tahaad Pettiford(3 apg)

Uzan(4.3 apg)

Duke was a little different because generational talent Cooper Flagg initiated their offense.

They all averaged 3 to 4 times more assist per game than sellers.

Also Pitino did not intentionally not get a pg lol. He swung and missed and settled for Dylan Darling. He then proclaimed Isaiah Jackson was his pg. Now he’s saying Sellers.

Yes they’re as much pgs as Shabazz Napier and Kemba Walker were. Jackson has never played pg a day in his life. Look at his numbers. Suggesting otherwise is wishing.
 
Kenpom’s rankings have zero merit without in-season stats. His rankings are formula-based. They’re rubbish at this point in the preseason.

As far as SJU goes, we will imo be a lot better than last year. Scoring is a ton better but Pitino will have the players playing defense or the “bench” guys will nice right in. This SjU team is more talented than last year by a big margin and anybody who doesn’t see it doesn’t know.

Yes SJU had PG’s. Darling who is a conference POY PG as well as Sellers and Jackson vying for time there. Sellers just absolu crushed it in recent scrimmage but we will see. Ceiling on this team is absurd and depth and talent everywhere.

Clayton was the shooting guard under Pitino prior at Iona. Pitino used Daniss Jenkins two years ago and Clayton transitioned to PG and won an NC last year. You’re shorting Pitino and that’s silly adtwe watching what Clayton did at Florida abs Jenkins did at sju and in pros.

Your PG had 10 turnovers vs SJU last year. He’s not immune from the combo-guard blues.

He still was really a combo-guard. Moved to full time Pg in college and pros. Both our teams will be good. I think you’re pretty aggressive writing us off considering.
