Who 'gives up 20MM?!'
I'd bet that is in neighborhood of most given up all-time in a buyout, but the headline is misleading. Actual math is:
2yrs 75M of original 140MM remained - so took 55MM for next 2yrs
+ New contract of 8MM for 2yrs, 16 + 55 = 71MM
So he really gave up just 4MM and he got the 55 right away, if he earns 7.25% on his money over the next year he'll break even
Kevin Love in contrast has been wallowing for 3yrs in Cleveland on a more absurd 30MM annual contract. He's barely played and not wiling to give up a cent dragging the team down the drain with his declining health, motivation and skills. Love defined his value this summer when team USA didn't want his FREE services.
