He still has to take one of the threes minutes. You can’t have a backcourt of Kemba/Rose or Kemba/Quickley at any point. It’s too small defensively so burks has to be there. If you have him take Quickley’s minutes, then he’s out of the rotation, same with Rose. The only viable option is to start him, which wasn’t working. Someone was going to be benched. The Quickley/Rose combo has been our best combo for going on 2 seasons now. Thibs didn’t want to break that up. Burks has to be there for his size and defensive ability. This wasn’t a black and white issue.

Starting to sound like Pacer fans with the Sabonis/Turner argument. Sabonis is clearly a better basketball player while Turner can play better defense.

Kemba is a better basketball player overall, sure those guys got him on the defensive end, but that is mainly due to their size.

They did so well with him not playing…lol

He can play with Quickley. Quickley is big enough to guard most 2’s because his wingspan is insane. And there are times where 2 PGs can be on the court. It’s not like an unthinkable occurrence.

So who leaves the rotation? That’s the elephant in the room. Someone has to be the odd man out. It’s solved for right now because Rose just had surgery. But that’s what you’re avoiding. It comes down to what Thibs values most

They’ve sucked with and without him. I didn’t say Kemba was the problem. But I understood the move at the time

Kemba certainly has significant limits with health a factor I am sure but being buried on the bench and even being told before the game you are not going to get a chance is a complete slap in the face. No one should be buried so deep they can't prove they should play entering the game even if it is in garbage time.

That happens to players all the time. You only care because it’s Kemba. That’s the business of the league

Yes, it was a black and white issue. You don’t completely bench a player capable of dropping 40+ in a game. As a PG, he’s better than Quickley and Burks. It was an overreaction to flat out bench him. Moving him from the starting role might’ve been justified. Removing him from the rotation entirely was not.

We should have Kemba's back...Calhoun just did. Not just because we owe it to him as UConn fans but also because he can still play & didn't deserve to be banished for 10 games.

Kemba has moved on from it and played well, hopefully Thibs now sees that Kemba can be one of the better players on his team. Kemba will have bad games, maybe a few in a row, but he can also carry a team for 4 or 5 games in a row.

If it doesn't work out well the next month or so & the Knicks fall further out of playoff spot then maybe they move him at the deadline but I hope it works out, fun having Kemba play well on the Knicks.

Kemba , played 10 years in the NBA, made All-Star teams and is the All-Time Charlotte scoring leader. He also always gave 100% and was a great teammate.
I understand he has also made about $200,000,000 million dollars.
By any standards that a pretty good if not great career.
Unless you done something noteworthy in your life like a Nobel prize in medicine any critique of Kemba‘s career is laughable.
He has more than lived up to getting taken 10th. There are much higher draft picks who didn’t have half the careers.
A six footer playing as hard as he does ,not only being the primary ball hand on every play but usually asked to be the primary scorer takes a toll on the body. We’re all mortals even the most impervious eventually get overcome by Father Time.

Whatever path his career takes he should be proud .
 
The larger problem (as always for the Knicks) is a lack of planning from leadership. If Thibs didn't see a role for Kemba, they should have brought him in. Not sure what kind of team they think they are building but it sure seems like the coach and the front office are not on the same page.

Jamaal Crawford is capable of dropping 40 and he’s out the league. The game is way more nuanced than being able to “ drop 40”

Love watching Kemba play lights out -especially in a Knick uniform at MSG.

Let’s face it, the Knicks aren’t going anywhere and there is nothing an NBA coach does that makes a team any better or any more worse - it’s a player driven league.

Thibs thought for some reason Kemba didn’t give them a chance to win. He proved with that thought that his coaching insight meant nothing. Knicks still lost with him on the bench and it’s now clear as day kemba still has something to offer on the court.
 
After reading through this thread, I have 1 question, they play defense in the nba?
