Kelly Oubre- Connecticut is recruiting him the hardest

If Boat stays I will be surprised- I really think he is out the door no matter what his prospects might be in the draft. He really wants to go out there and provide for his family - the only question will be if the staff believes and can then convince him that one more year will help him. Tough draft next year if you are not a complete player or an athletic freak with size.
 
As I watch Oubre in that video more, the more I want this slick lefty. He's a scorer, much like Daniel Hamilton has a nice mid range game which I adore from kids, and he has great handle and has a nice aggressiveness/nastiness to him. Nice stroke from deep and although it's not a jump shot he doesn't need one because you come out too fast he has definite ability to blow by......No doubt he and Dan Hurley can come in and be on the court at the same time in Storrs......go get him KO!!
 
Add to the scorers a guy who can deliver the ball, a rebounder or two and a defensive stopper. Hopefully, some of the scorers can also play some of these roles.

Can we use another true PG?...yes! Do we NEED one? Not at all. Remember Rodney Purvis is going to be taking an entire year off to work on his handle. The kid has played point before. Champs makes a good argument, but I think Purvis is going to surprise Champs with his ball handling ability. I have a feeling he will be playing a lot PG in practice against Boat and Napier. Going against them every day will certainly give him enough training.

Not to mention he wouldn't have to play PG for a full 40 minutes. Samuel can play PG for 25 min. And Purvis maybe 15. Not too mention I think we are underestimaing the ball handling abilities of both Hamilton and Oubre. These guys can take care of the roc. In fact I would venture to say their handles look even "tighter" than OC's based on tape. So I don't think we need to worry too much about another true PG. Either way we are going to have plenty of ball handlers. Rebounding and athleticism will make up for it.

Also, remember Louisville just won it all with only one true PG in Siva. Russ Smith has nice handles but he was chaotic will the ball and whenever he had to run point they had scoring issues. I think Purvis and Oubre can handle as well as Russ. Particularly Purvis. He is a load, try stealing the ball from a guy like that!
 
We would be stupid not to get another PG for 2015 is Boat leaves. With only purvis and Samuels we would be putting ourselves in a tough position if one got hurt. Remember when AJ price missed his freshman year and it left on Marcus Williams at the point. Not having another guy to handle the ball or defend the others team pg killed that teams tourney run. Probably the most talented team we had but no depth at the pg position.

There are more important things than ball handling or "handle" when it comes to evaluating a pg. Learning how to be a true floor general and having a feel for the pulse of the game usually takes time to learn. Not saying Purvis can or cannot. But agree we should try to get another point
 
Couple of things:

  • I believe Ahmed Hill and Kelly Oubre are being recruited at different positions. Hill at the SG and Oubre at the SF.
  • Jarred Terrell and Malik-Abu said they want to play college ball together. But recently AMA has been recruited very hardly by different schools than Terrell. The only school that matches up is Providence. I think we have a fair shot if we swing in and go for AMA.
  • Pascal Chukwu is still MIA. I want him.
  • And I spoke to Boat yesterday and he said he plans on having a huge year. To me that either sounds like he wants to win badly, impress NBA scouts, go pro, or all of the above.

AMA recently said that he and Terrell are not a package deal, so that works for us.

He's going to have to develop a lot to change some NBA attitudes and become a high slot predictor.

As for Boatright, the scout had a less glowing review: “For me, personally, he’s tough to like. He’s got the lethal traits of being (not smart on the floor) and selfish. When I first saw him I got excited, because he’s got big-time quickness. Maybe he’s reformed himself. A couple of times, (he didn’t pass to a player and) he had to see the guy. He’s one of those moody little point guards who decides who he’s going to pass to. I just hate that.”

On Boatright, both scouts were adamant that he’s not ready.

“I think he has to stay in school,” said the Eastern Conference scout. “He has to improve his shooting. At his size, he has to be able to knock down shots. He’s got great speed, quickness, an ability to get in the lane. He’s improving his passing, but he’s gotta work to be a knock-down shooter.”

Said the Western Conference scout: “I don’t see it for him. He’s an undersized scorer, he has zero point guard skills. He gets stuck in the air. He can make a play now and then, but he’s looking out for himself all the time. He’s a scorer and very quick. At that size, a guy running around like lunatic, looking for his own shot all time … Somebody else might like his raw ability. He’s a good athlete, but you’re gonna get a version of the kid (Nate) Robinson. I don’t know what you do with guys like that. I’m just not a fan of him.”
