In Duke game ESPN coverage, as Kelly was on her way to an impressive double-double, while simultaneously playing shut-down defense against the vaunted Chelsea Gray, Rebecca Lobo asked "should Kelly Faris receive AA consideration?"

Answer: "No"

Rebecca followed up with "consieration at least?"

Still no positive response.

That is not right. If Kelly continues her present path of stellar all around play, and shut-down defense of opponents' best player, game in and game out, AA honors should follow. There was no basis for a "No" answer on a national telecast, no less, when Kelly had just posted a double/double and when Chelsea Gray was sitting on the bench looking like a deer in the path of oncoming headlights.

I protest!

No All-America, no Huskies of Honor and NOBODY ever deserved the wall more than Kelly. That sucks.

Maybe the responder wondered "who is this Jelly?" I'm sure if Becca had said Kelly, it would have been a thumbs up! How could it not be?

Be calm. Every day her stock rises. They will see the error in their ways.

Geno showed the world what he thinks of her with the chest bump. I'm pretty sure that Geno's and the other coaches' and her teammates' are the only AA votes she cares about --which is why she's so great. I think she will make an awsome coach some day, after her long pro career is over.

Geno Auriemma on Kelly Faris vs Duke: "I don’t know that anybody ever represented that uniform ... the way that kid did tonight."

I don't know who said "No" about Kelly's qualifications for AA. It sure wasn't Coach McCallie.
It was that idiot Pam Ward. Terrible PBP announcer and now she exposes herself as someone who knows nothing about basketball.

AA status is awarded to the players who, when the score is tied or their team is down 1 with time running out, make the shots to win the game. There is a different award given to defensive genius who prevents the other team's AA from making that shot. It's called the national championship trophy.

There is little doubt that Kelly won't make any first team All-American team but you can rest assured that she will be a very very very high WNBA draft pick. There isn't anyone in the league who wouldn't want to have someone who has her athleticism and her engine who just knows how to play the game. She doesn't have the offensive skills to ever be a superstar but she's someone who has always been a stellar defensive player and an outstanding rebounder and now has improved her shooting to the point where she is someone you can't ignore or play off of. I have no doubt she'll be playing in the WNBA for many many many years if she wants to, as long as she stays healthy.

Kelly is moving up the WNBA draft every game and increasing her stock in Europe. It think she she derserves AA consideration but it doesn't come it won't deminish what she had meant to this team.

Even if she fails to make one of the All-American teams, the Boneyard should organize a vigilante party and put her name and number up on the Huskies of Honor wall under cover of darkness right before Senior Night.
Now we're talkin'! :)

I think Mike Thibault, who has the 4th pick in the upcoming WNBA draft, may now be rethinking his previous statement that while Kelly is very good, it's doubtfrul that the Mystics would draft her.

The reason some of the morons say no is because Kelly isn't averaging 15+ PPG. We know her value and while she probably couldn't care less about individual accolades, one way or the other, I bet she ends up honored on the Huskies of Honor wall.

Can you believe that there are some brain damaged folks who actually think Simmons is a better AA candidate? I kid you not. Talk about delusional.

Simmons is like Shimmel of Louisville. They keep both teams in the game.

People who select AA players do so on the basis of stats, of information yielded by box scores. People who understand basketball, especially college basketball, know how much of the story is left out of box scores. Box scores do not reveal heart...or hustle...or dives to the floor for loose balls...or swat-outs of offensive rebounds to the back-court...or defensive intensity...or the degree to which one's presence on the floor elevates the play of one's teammates. But is there any single player out there you'd rather see on the floor? Or enjoy watching more?? Kelly is not going to be a first team AA, which only serves to demonstrate how few "experts" really understand the game. Yes, she will be a great WNBA asset to any team should she wish to play, but, and I know it's sacrilege to say this, part of me wishes she'd blow it off. She's obviously so keenly intelligent, and so self-disciplined, she can be a huge success in any endeavor of her choosing. Maybe in her case the alternative possibilities offer something much better.

Let's be fair to Pam Ward. Her answer wasn't. "No." It was., "Probably not, and that's a shame." It was not negative against Kelly at all and more a comment of how others neglect Kelly's contributions.

The conversation surrounded the 1:00 mark just after Kelly left the game.

If Kelly plays as she has been to the end of the year Kelly will be a first team AA. Last night with the game in hand at 1:36 left in the game Kelly dove on the floor for a loose ball in the middle of the lane. She left to her second standing ovation of the game.
