2025 Recruiting: Kelis Fisher (merged threads)

The people at HoopGurlz aren’t paid by anyone, in fact they’re lucky they get travel expenses reimbursed. I know because I worked for them for a few years. Some sites like Gold Star, ASGR, ProspectsNation, etc get revenue from coaches/schools that subscribe to get more in depth info on recruits. Heck, if there were any money to be made in scouting I’d be doing that rather than dragging myself to an office every week

There are sites the parents pay for like Hudl but I’m not aware that they do rankings

While IMG is a high profile school, it’s quite possible Kelis simply wasn’t seen much and it’s possible when she was seen, she had a bad game. It’s not like scouts are at every game at every tournament - they’re spread thin and simply can’t see all of the players enough to make a complete evaluation. That’s why I pretty much disregard rankings
Very true. I can't understand why so many fans take these rankings as gospel and then build up high expectations based on a few individual's personal opinions. And to think that coaches of high level programs would rely on these opinions to do their jobs and build their rosters is amusing. Being #5 or #40 against HS kids has very little to do with how a kid will play against college competition.

It’s also true that rankings are affected by which schools are recruiting a girl. Gandy wasn’t ranked until she committed to UConn, same as the Alaskan Jess Moore, who hadn’t been seen by a single scout.

I’m aware coaches have helped out some kids just by showing up at their games and not disputing a girl’s statement she’s being recruited by them. It’s not a rarity to see a girl’s list of interests be a bunch of high mid-majors and one top 10 team

I'm not aware of and too lazy to do any digging, but has there been any research that compares player performance in college with where they were ranked as high school seniors?

Good to know. Maybe we’re simply reading too much into these rankings.

Kelis is currently playing on ESPNU against Westtown (no Jordyn Palmer) if anyone’s interested.

Kelis' team, IMG, getting clobbered with a huge disparity in foul calls against through the first half. I believe that Kelis has 9 points at the half.

Yeah, a whole lot of phantom fouls, mostly against IMG. Refs were calling it like 6th-grade rec league, super-tight, zero physicality allowed. Their top three were in foul trouble almost from the start...

One 5-star teammate fouled out with only one point; I doubt she played more than 10 minutes total.

Fisher looked quite good in the time she was out there, probably no more than 15-18 minutes.

Kelis and IMG on ESPN2 now vs Montverde (Saniyah Hall). Kelis with first points of game.

In the first quarter, Kelis (personally) is leading Montverde 9 to 5 (4 drives and a free throw)...
She's an aggressive and fearless driver just like KK..........if they both can consistently hit their outside shots the two of them sharing the court at UConn along with Azzi and Sarah is going to be a nightmare for other teams.....

I wish I could be there to watch next season's practices and see KK and Kelis attacking and defending each other!
By the way, I believe that Kelis scored 23 points and hit 9 of 10 free throws (a great attribute for a player who drives well and gets fouled a lot).

Glad she’ll be at UConn. Highlights I’ve seen show her driving to right side- can she attack going left as well?
Interesting observation. There aren’t many players who don’t favor one hand. Even Paige and Azzi prefer going to the right, even though they can go left at times. KK favors her right hand even when she attacks from the left. Christyn was a lefty but could also finish with her right if she had to. By contrast, Juju and Hannah strongly favor their right hands.

My father and brother and I are all naturally ambidextrous — it runs in the family. But even with this, habits develop and you have to work at overcoming them. It’s definitely doable, and maybe Kelis will decide to develop her left hand. It’s not just about strength. Hand-eye coordination is the bigger hurdle. My brother and I once spent a summer trying to eat and write with our off hands. I was 12 and he was 14. It took some doing and a lot of mistakes and spills, but after a few months I was comfortable using either hand for such tasks, as well as throwing shooting catching and batting. It came in handy (see what I did there?) in a few sports.
