If hired, would be quite the sight to see Hobbs on the opposite bench down in PR.. I imagine he was integral in shepherding Kromah to us last year, and Lasan's contributions were crucial at various points in the title-winning season. Good luck Karl, and it might be a good idea not to verbally assault your players![]()
Meh. Rather have another guy who bleeds our colors, and can talk about being a lottery pick & the tens of millions he made in the league. If Hobbs does go, I'd hope they'd throw some cash at a serious recruiter - that's the chink in the armor right now.
Maybe Donyell. If Hobbs does leave, would be interesting to see if we hire a coach outside the UConn family.
Can't believe we almost hired this guy after Huggins was fired. Oh how he has fallen down the ladder...

Jeff Goodman @GoodmanESPN 9sHobbs may be back in the running. Anthony Johnson, the first choice, and Mike Young, the second choice, both pulled themselves out of consideration. Something going on there.

Nice, but I think Vincente Ithier is more of a pure 1 and he's got some good international connections & experience playing for Puerto Rican Nat'l team. The obvious answer to replace Hobbs is Vern Giscombe.

I trust Ollie and co. will make the best decision if Hobbs does leave. Who is considered the "stud" recruiting on our staff now?
My vote is for Donyell. Not only is he a credit to the program with years of NBA experience, but we can finally put the lid on all the "no big man coach" bitching.

What has he ever done to suggest that he would be a good coach?
I've seen him publicly say before that'd he loved to be a coach at UConn multiple timesWell, he's currently an assistant coach at Ryder and he's been an assistant in the D-League. So both college and Pro experience. Way more experience than Ollie had coming in.
And it's not like we are going to bring in an assistant Head Coach. Presumably, this will be a guy who works his way up. Yell is perfect in that regard. Plus the fact he's desperate to coach at UCONN.
And we'll only have to pay him minimum wage. But if we are looking for a bigs man coach there only one person who makes sense and you know who I'm talk'n boutIf he goes, there's always Dove. I'm sure he's not up to anything too sensational at the moment.

I'd give him a shot. As long as he's not the free throw coach.
(Ironically, he was actually a really good FT shooter - I think went 20 for 20 one game.)
