Karaban still weighing decision whether to return or go pro

Hurley needed to draw a line with him as to not strangle the team. But he didn’t, gave him all the time he wanted.
AK totally jerked off the team. Grow balls make a decision.

Now BOTH of them really screwed the pooch..
Really hurts what next years team will be.. Sorry Stewart and Ross with a freshman for forwards. Bubble city
Some of you need to get a grip. From what we've seen from Hurley and Karaban the last 3 years does anyone really think there's some friction here between them? Or that Karaban is using the threat of going to the NBA to get more NIL? I'm sure they're both getting what they need out of this process and are fine with it. Hurley wouldn't let Karaban sacrifice the success of next year's team and Karaban wouldn't want to hamstring Hurley's ability to do that.

We'll find out shortly what happened and I'm pretty certain nothing like what some of you think happened, actually happened. Some of you need to just relax!

He's had 5 weeks. Love Alex but enough is enough. There is no epiphany to be had. Gotta make a call and live with it. Doesn't owe us anything but his teammates, coaches, university....if it affects next years ability for the team to compete at the highest level maybe he does.
New Girl Ugh GIF

Getting inside information on our team is more difficult than finding out what is happening in North Korea (actually, they got their top players back). It’s always been that way from injury info on down. We have to believe that Hurley already knows what he needs to get done. Alex either told him he’s back or said he’s waiting until June which means a new player announcing will be shortly coming.
also, we haven‘t factored in injuries. If Stew goes down we need a backup player regardless.

Truly believe that winning B2B titles has broken some fans. You'd think it would be the exact opposite lol

Those are potential negative impacts that count. Fans misery from a potential bad season is on us. For us this is about entertainment and vicarious pride. There might be some fans whose lives are so miserable they need to find hope outside themselves. The vast majority of us that is not the case.

I get it. We’re upset and we want to vent our anger. We want to hurt our perceived transgressor the way he hurts us. It doesn’t make any difference what and how much they’ve done for us in the past. We constantly reset our needs. Indecisiveness is not a trait that is beneficial or positive. The same can be said about incessant neediness. Especially if it’s about abstract and vicarious fulfillment. And worse if it leads us to want payback.

Venting is healthy. A forum is a good place to vent. Players, coaches and their relatives should not come here for this reason unless they have the constitution to let negativity directed towards them not impact them.

The challenge for us is to learn how to deal with these situations in the best possible way. Repeating ourselves over and over again is not venting. It’s a cry for help. If a situation occurs which negatively impacts the way we feel why do we need to treat it in the same manner as a physical attack? Alex is not the only person needing to figure things out.

Regardless of our personal situations any resentment towards Alex regarding what is happening is misplaced. He doesn’t control the levers. Hurley does.

Whether Alex can or cannot make a decision Hurley has had the same amount of time to come up with a contingency plan to deal with each scenario.

I believe he has. Let’s see what happens in the following weeks.

You should watch the interview with him. Really good interview. He talks about entering the draft in the first few minutes.

Thanks.
That was a great interview along with all of the replies in your thread.

Are you saying that it’s reasonable to not be a clear contender every single year? Like that guy Calhoun would usually take a few years between building real NCAA title threats?

….Ed Cooley was right, our fan base has become spoiled. Wining titles and getting every player you hope to have isn’t supposed to be easy.

When St John’s is putting together a top 2/3 team literally from scratch and a team that recently won 2 National Championship titles ( and likes to refer to themselves as the Basketball capital of the world) can’t seem to get to 10 players and recently lost AK’s replacement to Georgetown because of a lack of playing time and and can’t seem to secure a commitment from AK about returning leaving a potential giant hole not only in the starting lineup but no UConn level back up for the PF and C positions while most of the quality players are dropping off of the portal and the only development that matters concerning the team is negative. We lost a top 60 power forward and we might also lose AK also a power forward and every day that goes by without a decision leaves the potential replacement pool of players smaller and less attractive which will most definitely affect the upcoming season in a negative way. Duke just had a much higher ranked player decide to stay at Duke at the deadline. There’s nothing wrong with taking your time to make a decision of this magnitude but when
Procrastinating to the extreme ( without an obvious source of new and pertinent knowledge and information concerning the decision available) is not only damaging to the team he loves so much but doesn’t seem to make his decision any easier, it is what it is ( his draft situation) and more time isn’t going to change that. ( Sorry if I’m rambling, I just returned home heavily medicated from a 3rd more involved ruptured disc and 12 disc fusion procedure ). I hope AK goes in the 1st round and UConn gets a worthy replacement and everything ends up great for all parties.

Ridiculous for who? You?
These fans want to know whether we can recruit a stud portal player, then tell each other we’re better than and morally above St John’s despite the fact that if Karaban left it’s likely our first 6 will be more than 50% transfers.

I don’t care how we get players. If Hurley wants them and they want to play for UConn, I root for them. If I wanted to take the “moral high ground” I wouldn’t watch sports. Or I’d root for Marquette and watch them flame out every year.

Maybe he just wants to go to the combine to recruit Darrion Williams for us

St. John’s is 100%. And St. John’s coach is a bit of a lowlife. Our superiority is intact.

Interesting way to frame this. Because right now 7 of our top 10 (6/9 without AK) have come into the program organically. We’re still clearly prioritizing freshmen as evident by this year’s class, even sans Adams.

Comparatively , I think St John’s currently has 0 players who have come into the program organically?

Not saying one is better or worse than the other and of course transfers will be a huge part of any roster building, but clearly Hurley has tried to achieve some balance. Framing it as differently is misleading IMO

I have no inside information but I personally don't believe that it is coincidental that the couple of potential quality AK replacements that we have been linked to have had nothing mentioned about them being linked with other schools (contact or visiting) since we found out that we had contacted them.

I am very confident that Dan Hurley has a plan A, B & C ready to be executed the second he needs to enact it.

I do believe however that some of us need to reflect on what AK has given to this program and this school and then reconsider their current stance, which is basically telling this kid to s#!t or get off the pot. He deserves far better than that from us.
