Kansas Post Game Thread

This is what I hoped for from Mullins. Reibe is contributing far beyond what I ever envisioned for this year. I am thrilled with his play and with Reed out it has been rock solid and clutch.

Posting this next point without completely reading the thread, but I haven't seen the mention that I think we went into half time down 5 and returned to the court down 4, correct? I assume Solo's 2 pointer was deemed a 3 at halftime but I didn't hear any mention of the change or did I just miss it, or am I wrong about being up 5? Would we have had to appeal for that review, or did the refs give some kind of an indication of review?
Yeah to announcers talked about it briefly and it was changed from a two to a 3.

Welcome to the party Braylon Mullins! He looked much better than I thought. He looked gooooood

What a great defensive performance in the second half. Absolutely clamped Kansas up. They started the game off with a bunch of threes and I’m pretty sure they only hit one in the second half

Reibe is CONFIDENT now. He’s much more decisive with the ball and had another fantastic game to show for it

Karaban was having a miserable game…until he wasn’t. Great play down the stretch to seal it

Best game of the year for Solo considering the context. Great shooting!

UConn was on the ropes two or three times that game, getting close to double digit deficits on the road against Kansas. They punched back every time and got away with a gutsy win

This team is real. Let’s go Huskies!

The way Mullins moves without the ball is Art. I don’t know if I’ve seen a kid like him that way. His feet are so graceful it looks like he’s gliding.

He moves really well. Someone posted earlier that you can just tell a player is special based on how they move. And I agree Braylon was moving differently

Much better defensively than I thought too. Really quick on his feet and finds good position. He’s skinny but didn’t get bullied or overpowered

Trying not to overreact on 1 game but a true freshman coming into Phog Allen and doing THAT…I’m getting hype

That '95 game is the reason the Kansas demon has never been exorcised for me, until now.

I'm still processing that one. I was 16 and soooo excited to see our undefeated, #2-ranked team go to KC and beat them, and we got absolutely slaughtered. This was when there were still questions if JC could win the big game, and then we went out and were down 20 by halftime and scrambled to get it under 30.

Someone mentioned young Ray, and it was that sorta vibe. Mullins could get anywhere he wanted, and his release is so quick that he can get a shot off easily. In 20ish minutes, he showed he is by far our most talented offensive player and should be getting 28-32 minutes as soon as he is fully acclimated. And to cap it off, he played solid D, and in a big spot took his first college free throws and was $$. He could be a really special player.

He used the word “literally” in a figurative way. It’s a perfectly acceptable use of the word in modern English. Hope that helps.
It doesn’t

People should understand the words they use. Literally is almost literally the most misused word in the English language these days. It’s not acceptable when it’s factually incorrect. Ever.

Phog pregame hype videos and arena signage boast 6 nattys, Its quite pathetic

I’m so glad as a UConn fan that I don’t have to contextualize any championship claims. Even out of the 4 NCAAs for Kansas, one is very much unlike the other three.

That’s true.

But this thing about being mvp of that tournament is blown up a bit. His stats were ok, he had 1 big game out of 3 and was very impactful but our TEAM dominated and he was the logical choice.

People cite that as though no frosh can approach DC or even consider it. “He won MVP of PK80 at the start of his frosh year.” He wasn’t Cam Boozer. He was an impactful bench big with big time defensive impact on an all-time great team.
I’m not saying we would’ve lost without him (wouldn’t say we’d for sure won either but not the point of this post).

But I think that’s when the start of the Clingan 10-0 spurts started. Yes the team dominated but his impact was just so noticeable when he was in the game.

Difference between impact and solid play. Think Reibe is giving us good solid play currently which is amazing from someone who looked like they couldn’t get a rebound to start the year.

That turnaround from Braylon is a shot I’m pretty sure nobody else on our team could create or make… in his “second” game
Stewart is actually pretty good in the lane. Even last year I thought he might be able to create shots the way Castle could. And I've seen flashes of it this season as well. Wish he would stop settling for threes and create better shots for himself in the lane.

Im very aware of the Newton start and the comparison and like you i hope lightning strikes twice but if it dont which is not out of the realm of possibility it will be a problem.
It's not lightning, it is a developmental progression within a system and relative to the abilities that each athlete possesses. Tristan adapted to the system, and while in the program, his natural abilities were developed to a 1st team All American level. Silas is one month of competition into that program. I think we are all pretty excited about the BYU version of Silas. Had a tough one last night. Guess which one the staff is going to point to and say "like that"!

Absolutely. I pointed to a drive he had the other night where instead of being a monster and jamming it, he tried to finesse it. Gotta go right at it. Think we are seeing/saying the same thing.

Geez, ya hate to overdo it on a small sample size, but man, sure seems like he already is a special player.

A poster on the KU board joked that his mom was handing out orange slices at halftime, which I’ll admit was an objectively funny joke.
Do y check opposing board often? How do they compare to this place

I think Council is one of the quickest/fastest players I’ve ever watched. Frankly I give credit to Silas for limiting his TOs to 3 in 29 minutes. Played strong defense including a tie-up that turned out to be huge down the stretch. He’s for real, despite the goldfish-term memory of many in the chat.
Indeed. The guy with a triple double (5th player ever) and who was our MVP against BYU didn't suddenly forget how to play .

.-.
Yeah different players he and Clingan, but a similar stack. One more game out for Reed and healthy vs Florida. Gonna need him, they’re huge.
Would make more sense to let him get right against East Texas A&M than Florida

Hard to say. McNeeley was legit our best player in December of last year before he got hurt. I don't think he ever got right after that.
It’s not right to judge Liam against Bray. The teams are constructed so differently. Imagine Liam with Silas and Mali at the point, not needed to bring the ball up. Conversely, imagine Bray on that team…

It’s not a fair comparison IMO

Silas will eventually get it, and when he does, this team will be unstoppable. Late January is my guess for when he settles in.

Malachi needs to start practicing his 3s. They are sagging off of him a lot.
You mean the guy that is 9-16 from three so far needs more practice ? I'd say he just needs to take them when he's open.

I like how the Kansas board is more interested in taking shots at Hurley than praising the defense of their players. We were getting mismatches, but it seems like we struggled to get the ball to the mismatched players.
That's hilarious. Has this board EVER been about the opposing coach like that ?

Reibe and freshman Clingan will naturally be compared. They are both playing behind all conference centers, Both freshmen, both 7 feet tall, and both white
Only one can finish with his off hand, though.
