Stews issue is that he has no idea how to find any offense other than sitting out on the the three point line waiting for a kick out. So he feels like a chronic bystander. And then he is way too antsy to take when he does get the pass, takes some bad shots. That one he missed the rim on entirely last night was a great case - bad shot, out of flow, too deep, missed everything.

When he puts it on the floor he doesn’t go to the rim strong and resorts to fadeaways that are low %. Kid never gets to the free throw line.

Meanwhile Ross is putting himself in places to produce far more often. He’s climbing to get offensive rebounds, cutting/moving, making decisions when he gets the ball at the line to take to the lane, looks to distribute.

Stew just doesn’t present enough gears, really doesn’t show enough facets in the role player spot.

It’s hard to know what he’d be in a feature role but does seem like a kid that is better suited to be that at a lower level. You can see he wants to score, just cannot figure out how to do it well in his current role.

Why I’ve been hoping the light goes on and he finds ways to find offense in the paint, but at this point that just doesn’t seem to be registering. He just parks it at the line.

What I really mean is I don't like seeing him dribble into the lane with no plan when everyone is playing off of him. He hits his open 3s. Would like to see him take more 3s even when he's not 100% wide open.

I mean... he did only have 2 pts on 1-5 shooting in his first game. I'm ok with that level of "growing pains"

Reibe is not Clingan and that’s okay. Reibe is still developing great and will be great for us year 2 and should be ready to be a starter.

Why do we have to remember that? Posts like this are Reibe shade, imo. I loved DC. I still love him, I get League Pass mostly to watch him. Reibe is still developing sure, but he's a top center now, never mind next year.

UConn is one of the better teams out there, but the offensive system has taken a large step back. They don't have nearly as much movement right now. Hurley mentioned planning some changes in the offseason, leading me to think this may be intentional, but they should go back to their old offense. It's what made them elite, differentiated them from every other team, and made watching them so easy on the eyes.

Kinda felt the same when I read that. Hawkins did not score 17 pts even one time as a frosh. Nevermind in game #2

Don't forget Hawkins and Jackson (though sadly their NBA careers have been mostly forgettable so far)

It’s not Reibe shade. It’s respecting just how great Clingan was at that time while still recognizing Reibe has been coming along outstandingly.
 
Gee, you think Mullins will always remember playing at Allen Fieldhouse?? Unreal.... 2nd college game and he looked 10x better than the last game. He totally belonged.
 
Too soon to worry about Demary. Kansas has put some unique pressure on our point guards - the offense doesn’t flow as well against a good switching scheme. Same thing happened last time and we didn’t run good offense, and Newton ended up forcing things - only difference was that it worked a lot. Yesterday Demary and Smith ended up forcing things when the offense bogged down - and it didn’t.

There were games this year when I posted in chat rooms that Demary was really looking outstanding at managing our offense. Ahead of where Newton was this early. But this was an example of a good scout/game plan taking him away from what he does best and him needing to go to a Plan B. Then he pressed trying to make things happen and it didn’t go well. So now he can go back to the lab and be more prepared. Individual possessions will go poorly in every game - maybe not as consistently as Kansas, but it’ll happen. And he needs to be ready to give us something out of nothing once in a while.

There's no reason to compare them to dump on a former player, there's also no reason to compare them because they're completely different players.

Liam is significantly larger than Braylon, he's probably a hair over two inches taller and 20 lbs heavier. Mullins is way more quick twitch than Liam and a superior athlete. One is an NBA forward, the other will be an NBA shooting guard. Their games are really nothing alike other than they can both shoot the ball.

Other than being really smart bigs at a young age Clingan and Reibe are also polar opposites. Clingan is way bigger and he was a defensive monster right from the jump. Reibe is far more skilled offensively than Clingan other than passing.

Agreed. If Reed was playing, that slip would have resulted in about 5+ assists for Demary. He wasn’t seeing it when Reibe had it, I think Reed becomes a focal point if he plays against that D

Demary isn’t coming from ECU, he’s coming from the SEC where he was tough and put up very good numbers. He needs sometime to take control of the offense (aka getting it). His defense was key last night and will continue to be. Also he was in on rebounds and loose balls that were key in a tight game

I would say by early Feb he will have this offense in his hands, a month of playing with Ball and Bray, and a dominate combo at C. That’s when he shows up and looks like a championship PG

I'm not worried in the least about Demary. I think this board needs to realize he's Silas Demary and not Tristen Newton. Every week, every game the guy gets compared to him and while I see some pieces of his game that are similar, maybe he's going to carve his spot out differently and maybe we'll rely on Malachi more that we needed when Newton was in his role.

Yeah he’s actually not a similar player to Newton other than the size. Newton was slow and methodical and a sniper. Demary is strong and more of an attack/midrange guy.

But one thing that’s similar: it takes a bit to get the offense down pat. He’s understanding it, but hasn’t mastered it yet.

I think Silas is doing just fine for right now.

At the same stage I think he’s a better defender and scorer than Newton. He’s just finding the balance between scoring and playmaking. Life will be much easier for him when Reed is back.

For sure. I recall a late Karaban foul when it would’ve been a guaranteed bucket but he made the guy miss and it was only his 2nd or 3rd foul with not much time left in the game. Great foul.

Braylon got two "Oh-Boys" from Frachilla last night. More to come, I'm sure.
