But this thing about being mvp of that tournament is blown up a bit. His stats were ok, he had 1 big game out of 3 and was very impactful but our TEAM dominated and he was the logical choice.

People cite that as though no frosh can approach DC or even consider it. ā€œHe won MVP of PK80 at the start of his frosh year.ā€ He wasnā€™t Cam Boozer. He was an impactful bench big with big time defensive impact on an all-time great team.

Iā€™m not saying we wouldā€™ve lost without him (wouldnā€™t say weā€™d for sure won either but not the point of this post).

But I think thatā€™s when the start of the Clingan 10-0 spurts started. Yes the team dominated but his impact was just so noticeable when he was in the game.

Difference between impact and solid play. Think Reibe is giving us good solid play currently which is amazing from someone who looked like they couldnā€™t get a rebound to start the year.

Stewart is actually pretty good in the lane. Even last year I thought he might be able to create shots the way Castle could. And I've seen flashes of it this season as well. Wish he would stop settling for threes and create better shots for himself in the lane.

It's not lightning, it is a developmental progression within a system and relative to the abilities that each athlete possesses. Tristan adapted to the system, and while in the program, his natural abilities were developed to a 1st team All American level. Silas is one month of competition into that program. I think we are all pretty excited about the BYU version of Silas. Had a tough one last night. Guess which one the staff is going to point to and say "like that"!

Absolutely. I pointed to a drive he had the other night where instead of being a monster and jamming it, he tried to finesse it. Gotta go right at it. Think we are seeing/saying the same thing.

Someone mentioned young Ray, and it was that sorta vibe. Mullins could get anywhere he wanted, and his release is so quick that he can get a shot off easily. In 20ish minutes, he showed he is by far our most talented offensive player and should be getting 28-32 minutes as soon as he is fully acclimated. And to cap it off, he played solid D, and in a big spot took his first college free throws and was $$. He could be a really special player.

Geez, ya hate to overdo it on a small sample size, but man, sure seems like he already is a special player.

Indeed. The guy with a triple double (5th player ever) and who was our MVP against BYU didn't suddenly forget how to play .

Itā€™s not right to judge Liam against Bray. The teams are constructed so differently. Imagine Liam with Silas and Mali at the point, not needed to bring the ball up. Conversely, imagine Bray on that teamā€¦

Itā€™s not a fair comparison IMO

Stews issue is that he has no idea how to find any offense other than sitting out on the the three point line waiting for a kick out. So he feels like a chronic bystander. And then he is way too antsy to take when he does get the pass, takes some bad shots. That one he missed the rim on entirely last night was a great case - bad shot, out of flow, too deep, missed everything.

When he puts it on the floor he doesnā€™t go to the rim strong and resorts to fadeaways that are low %. Kid never gets to the free throw line.

Meanwhile Ross is putting himself in places to produce far more often. Heā€™s climbing to get offensive rebounds, cutting/moving, making decisions when he gets the ball at the line to take to the lane, looks to distribute.

Stew just doesnā€™t present enough gears, really doesnā€™t show enough facets in the role player spot.

Itā€™s hard to know what heā€™d be in a feature role but does seem like a kid that is better suited to be that at a lower level. You can see he wants to score, just cannot figure out how to do it well in his current role.

Why Iā€™ve been hoping the light goes on and he finds ways to find offense in the paint, but at this point that just doesnā€™t seem to be registering. He just parks it at the line.

What I really mean is I don't like seeing him dribble into the lane with no plan when everyone is playing off of him. He hits his open 3s. Would like to see him take more 3s even when he's not 100% wide open.

I mean... he did only have 2 pts on 1-5 shooting in his first game. I'm ok with that level of "growing pains"

Why do we have to remember that? Posts like this are Reibe shade, imo. I loved DC. I still love him, I get League Pass mostly to watch him. Reibe is still developing sure, but he's a top center now, never mind next year.
