Kansas Post Game Thread

Stewart had some key stops, blocks and rebounds during our comeback. I made things easier on myself by viewing Stewart and Ross as a unit within the team, one player. We got 5rebs, 4blks, 3 assists and 1 point out of that unit last night. Usually we get at least 15 points out of that unit but Mullins arrived last night. It’s a process.

When Mullins goes up for his jump shot, kind of reminds me of NBA Jam from the 90s with guys jumping way off the court…. feels like he’s flying halfway towards the rafters.

Oh and after tonight, it’s still 6-4 ! suck it chickens !

😂

That was Mullins' "C" game. Looking forward to the 40 point "A" game.
That wasn't a "C" game in any way. Mullins was the best player on the floor in only his second college game. He didn't just make shots... he also defended well, made nice passes, rebounded and hit big free throws at crunch time. Total stud.

Solo needs to fix the mental mistakes because he is a dynamic scorer. Mullins and Solo together is just so dynamic. You can't lock down both of them..
That one pass late in the game where he just gifted it to the Kansas player that led to a fast break the other way...🤦‍♂️

But his mid-range game is so much better this year. And if he finally found his 3 pt touch....look out!

What incredible Freshmen we have. Mullins could score 20 in his sleep. Reibe is becoming our next Clingan, and might even be farther along than he was at this point. The future is bright and this team at full strength will be scary in March.
Reibe definitely has much better touch around the hoop than Clingan did when he was a freshman. But Eric needs to dunk the ball more! You're 7'1, slam that thing home!

Props to KU for their switching defense. Bigger props to the UConn staff and players for figuring out how to beat it. And the biggest props for UConn's D, arguably their best defense half so far this season.
Yeah, it really looked like we figured out how to defend Kansas in the 2nd half (most of their points in the 2nd half were from the FT line I believe). Last year's squad didn't have that ability to completely lock up a team like they did last night in the 2nd half.

Halftime adjustments by the UConn coaching staff to KU's switching was huge.
I feel like we didn't really figure out a way to counter their switching till the 2nd TV timeout in the 2nd half. Good thing our defense (+ Kansas' bad offense?) held the line till we figured out how to score.

People have to remember this. Reibe is doing well right now which is great. Clingan completely changed the game when he was on the court even at this point though.

Reibe is not Clingan and that’s okay. Reibe is still developing great and will be great for us year 2 and should be ready to be a starter.

That’s true.

But this thing about being mvp of that tournament is blown up a bit. His stats were ok, he had 1 big game out of 3 and was very impactful but our TEAM dominated and he was the logical choice.

People cite that as though no frosh can approach DC or even consider it. “He won MVP of PK80 at the start of his frosh year.” He wasn’t Cam Boozer. He was an impactful bench big with big time defensive impact on an all-time great team.

That's actually what I'm most concerned about. We weren't able to get the ball into the post. It won't matter how good Reibe and Reed are if the guards can't get the ball to them

Did you see the screens and slips? It does not need to be the guards setting the screen.

Every time I see posts like this about Demary all I can think about are the people complaining about Newton ("We don't have a point guard") in January 2023. Demary will have some good games (he looked pretty good against BYU) and some bad ones (tonight) but I really am confident he's going to settle in nicely by January or early February.

The Kansas defense was outstanding. Both of our PGs experienced some level of difficulty running the offense last night. Kudos to Self & Kansas. Other teams will watch the game film, but our staff will adjust. I expect that both Silas & Malachi are still learning the system at game sped and at some point there will be less thinking, things will slow down and muscle memory kicks in.

Stew is playing as well as he can but he is mistake prone / turns ball over / esp 2nd half of game and when his shots are not falling we have better options outthere.

It was smart to sit him 2nd half. Got to go with best players on the floor. I like Ross over Stew starting.

Given he looked perfectly healthy and proved to be essential in crunch minutes, I feel like we may as well start Mullins moving forward. He would’ve been the starter by fan consensus at the beginning of the season if not for the injury, so if not now, when?

That being said, I love both Stew and Ross and think they’ll both continue to be essential to team success throughout the year.

First victory period against them.

Can't be more impressed with Reibe. Two A+ games in a row from that kid, in a tough place to play. I'm through the moon with how good he's looked.

And yes on Mullins - he's what this team has been missing.
Yep he even outplayed the highly athletic kid from Kansas

I think the keyword is "claim". Kansas has the 4 NCAA and 2 Helms.

Ohhh I didn’t even realize Kansas had those. I figured it was AI getting its wires crossed between Kansas and UNC bball history. Your interpretation makes way more sense.

He used the word “literally” in a figurative way. It’s a perfectly acceptable use of the word in modern English. Hope that helps.

A use that became acceptable by way of mass misunderstanding of the literal definition of literally, btw. But I concur.
