Kansas Post Game Thread

Once again, I think that Hurley and his staff know how to assemble a real team. He brings in the right types of kids. We all have egos but his kids seem to be able to just work hard and play the right way for each other. With both the men and women, what a great time to be a fan of basketball in New England.

People have to remember this. Reibe is doing well right now which is great. Clingan completely changed the game when he was on the court even at this point though.

Reibe is not Clingan and that’s okay. Reibe is still developing great and will be great for us year 2 and should be ready to be a starter.
Clingan for sure changed the game defensively. Reibe is just a very talented 7 foot kid. Clingan did things he won’t be able to do and Reibe does and will continue to do things Clingan could not do. We are fortunate to be able to say that they both played in Ct.

The only UConn player that I can think of that could make a 17 point game seem like it was easy was Rip. You would watch a game look at the box score afterward and Rip would have 17-19 points.

I think Mullins is going to be similiar. And he will have a 30 point game this year maybe more than one.
I was thinking the same way, Hamilton maybe Allen. Mullins is just beginning but he looks like he could become a truly elite scorer and player going forward. He still just looks like a kid. He is going to get much stronger as he matures.

Anyone else wake up still totally jacked about the game last night and our prospects for the season as a whole? We are incredibly deep and talented and the next four months should be a lot of fun!!

That is what happened, and I do not believe the commentators made any mention of it.

Officials have always been able to review that on their own, often during the next timeout (which in this case was Halftime).

Demary needs to do some soul searching. terrible game from him when he should be one of our leaders in a tough environment.

he continues to play too passive and deferential. not stressing the defense at all with the ball in his hands, just looking for the next person to pass to.
Give him time. Remember TN first few months

Stewart had some key stops, blocks and rebounds during our comeback. I made things easier on myself by viewing Stewart and Ross as a unit within the team, one player. We got 5rebs, 4blks, 3 assists and 1 point out of that unit last night. Usually we get at least 15 points out of that unit but Mullins arrived last night. It’s a process.

When Mullins goes up for his jump shot, kind of reminds me of NBA Jam from the 90s with guys jumping way off the court…. feels like he’s flying halfway towards the rafters.

Oh and after tonight, it’s still 6-4 ! suck it chickens !

😂

Solo needs to fix the mental mistakes because he is a dynamic scorer. Mullins and Solo together is just so dynamic. You can't lock down both of them..
That one pass late in the game where he just gifted it to the Kansas player that led to a fast break the other way...🤦‍♂️

But his mid-range game is so much better this year. And if he finally found his 3 pt touch....look out!

What incredible Freshmen we have. Mullins could score 20 in his sleep. Reibe is becoming our next Clingan, and might even be farther along than he was at this point. The future is bright and this team at full strength will be scary in March.
Reibe definitely has much better touch around the hoop than Clingan did when he was a freshman. But Eric needs to dunk the ball more! You're 7'1, slam that thing home!

Props to KU for their switching defense. Bigger props to the UConn staff and players for figuring out how to beat it. And the biggest props for UConn's D, arguably their best defense half so far this season.
Yeah, it really looked like we figured out how to defend Kansas in the 2nd half (most of their points in the 2nd half were from the FT line I believe). Last year's squad didn't have that ability to completely lock up a team like they did last night in the 2nd half.

Halftime adjustments by the UConn coaching staff to KU's switching was huge.
I feel like we didn't really figure out a way to counter their switching till the 2nd TV timeout in the 2nd half. Good thing our defense (+ Kansas' bad offense?) held the line till we figured out how to score.

That’s true.

But this thing about being mvp of that tournament is blown up a bit. His stats were ok, he had 1 big game out of 3 and was very impactful but our TEAM dominated and he was the logical choice.

People cite that as though no frosh can approach DC or even consider it. “He won MVP of PK80 at the start of his frosh year.” He wasn’t Cam Boozer. He was an impactful bench big with big time defensive impact on an all-time great team.

That's actually what I'm most concerned about. We weren't able to get the ball into the post. It won't matter how good Reibe and Reed are if the guards can't get the ball to them

Did you see the screens and slips? It does not need to be the guards setting the screen.
