Kansas Post Game Thread

On offense he’s well ahead of DC. But DC was an eraser.
Yeah, Clingan was a unicorn, there is no replacing his sheer presence and ability on defense. But I think Reibe may end up being the better overall basketball player.

Big time win, Reibe is much better than advertised and already playing like a veteran. Mullins is going to be special. He still has some rust he’s shaking off but I haven’t felt this way about a freshman since Jordan Hawkins made his UConn debut
Huh? Hawkins showed potential as a frosh, but that’s all he showed. Not results. You can’t possibly compare how he started to what Mullins did tonight.

A lot of grit tonight. With only one point, that may have been Ross’s best game as a Husky.

I feel bad saying this because of his loyalty, but Stew needs to be like the 9th man once Reed comes back. Reibe, Smith, and Ross all ahead of him. 5-10 min backing up AK, maybe 5 backing up Mullins after Ross.
I just don't know what you do with the kid - Alex plays a lot of minutes. We will have plenty at the 3 with Mullins there and Stew is not a 3, at all. If he did something super well where if we were short on it we could look to him, then I'd say let's bring him in. He feels like odd man out. I literally have no idea what he is other than a breather for AK.

Karaban plays like 38 minutes a game, lol.

That's the point. A healthy Mullins along with a healthy Ross who doesn't stuff the box score but does little things, are all at the expense of J Stew's current minutes.

Mullins is obviously a very gifted offensive player but he he's too stationary on offense, I'd love to see more movement and flashing to open areas. But what I really really love about him is he could freaking stick someone on defense. He's right up in his guy's face and no one goes by him, and he mixes it up on the boards. A true gamer.

One more thing at the end of games with the lead, can we please stop running down the shot clock to the absolute last second so we have to throw up some crazy prayer that almost never goes in. Run it down 15 seconds or so, then run a play and get a good shot. I'd rather be up six than shave an extra 2 seconds off the game clock and be up 3.

For me, it was all about the freshman tonight. Both just looked so poised and confident in one of, if not the hardest places to play on the road.

It's barely December and tonight I saw Mullins come off the bench and be an absolute spark plug, hitting multiple 3s and throwing up quick catch and shoots from deep like a veteran. I watched Reibe battle down low and be a steady presence all game despite giving up strength to Bidunga. Both had great games overall. I'm really excited to see the production we get from both this year, they're both studs. All Americans for a reason.

It was nice to see Solo hit some shots too. While I can't wait for Reed to get healthy, these minutes are so valuable for Reibe and will pay dividends in March.

3-1 through 4 games of our gauntlet. I like our changes in both of the next 2 as well.

Reibe is so solid and even here, not sure he is getting the attention he deserves.

He was so so solid tonight. He made it tough for Kansas to come inside, ripped down lots of rebounds, and made most his shots.

The homer TV announcers were to wrapped up about talking about the missing Kansas player (not ours) that they missed some nice talking points on development of players like Reibe - who were growing up b4 our eyes.

Without Reibe's presence we would have lost that game tonight.

That's because Kansas is a "Blue Blood" and Storrs has no place to eat.
Lol pathetic.

I think 99.999999% of the board was uber excited for Mullins. This isn’t news you were breaking.
Other than Braylon’s impact tonight, I am relieved that he may be close to 100% healthy. I don’t like when injuries are day to day or if a player comes back too soon, a reinjury occurs. Tarris really needs to be 100%. We don’t need him for the next game, but a week from now we play Florida with the largest front court in college. Duke beat the Gators tonight by only 1 at Cameron and Duke is impressive.

The caveat will be Demery. If he doesnt clean up the poor decisions it could derail this season since Malachi while being a really nice back up is too shot first a guy to lead this team where it can potentially go.
Every time I see posts like this about Demary all I can think about are the people complaining about Newton ("We don't have a point guard") in January 2023. Demary will have some good games (he looked pretty good against BYU) and some bad ones (tonight) but I really am confident he's going to settle in nicely by January or early February.

I think Council is one of the quickest/fastest players I’ve ever watched. Frankly I give credit to Silas for limiting his TOs to 3 in 29 minutes. Played strong defense including a tie-up that turned out to be huge down the stretch. He’s for real, despite the goldfish-term memory of many in the chat.
I figured that Kansas would let Council take the last three pointer to try to tie the game. I’m glad they didn’t.

Karaban plays like 38 minutes a game, lol.
I think Stewart will get his minutes by giving Alex a break maybe Danny can get Alex down to 33-34 minutes a game. Other than that I don’t see where Stewart helps us on the court. He is a 4 who can shoot and he can rebound.

But Ross has too many other skills. Once healthy I see a rotation of

Demary/Smith less time playing together with Mullins healthy.
Ball/Ross/Mullins will play the 2 when Ross is in the game
Mullins/Ross
Alex/ Stewart
Reed/ Reibe.

That is a nine man rotation don’t think it gets bigger than that. But Stewart is going to get his chances when breaking Alex.
