Kansas Post Game Thread

Pretty amazing to watch a kid in his 2nd college game in Phog Allen Fieldhouse nonetheless play like that. His stroke is pure, he can take you off the dribble, that turn around jumper was tremendous, and sticking 2 free throws late in that setting tells you all you need to know about how good this kid is. But I have to say, Reibe has exceeded expectations. He has had to do it without a net against Arizona and now Kansas with Reed out. This kid is going to be very special. He has incredible hands, catches everything, has a soft touch, but tonight and against Illinois he hit the glass really hard and is starting to block/alter shots. I cannot wait to see a healthy Reed with this group. Demary is the one missing link, but this offense is complicated, so I think we all need to be a bit patient with him while both he and Smith get accustomed to running it. We all should remember Newton's struggles that first year as he had to learn to grasp the offense. I suspect Demary will start to come around by early January (I certainly hope sooner, but I will be patient with him) and start to play much better offensively. This team is already a legit National Title contender.

Clingan was MVP of the Phil knight invitational 8 games into his freshman year
People have to remember this. Reibe is doing well right now which is great. Clingan completely changed the game when he was on the court even at this point though.

Reibe is not Clingan and that’s okay. Reibe is still developing great and will be great for us year 2 and should be ready to be a starter.

Interestingly enough, even though he struggled mightily on offense, I think that Silas may have had his best overall defensive game of the year. Super aggressive and contained drives much better overall than some of his previous games.

Not worried about his offense. BYU game showed what he can and will do many times the rest of the year

Yeah anyone comparing Reibe to Clingan needs to go watch the Illinois NCAA game again. Clingan singlehandedly shut down an entire teams offense
I agree, but that was also sophomore year Clingan. One thing about Reibe, he has had to play two bigtime games with no Reed. Clingan always had Sanogo in every big game UConn played when he was a freshman. I am taking nothing away from Clingan, he was awesome, but Reibe next year can be unreal if he works on his body a bit more. What he did tonight against that front line in that building was pretty darn fantastic.

Was really impressed by his ups snatching rebounds - kid explodes off the floor. His baseline take was crafty as hell.

He came and soft sounds like something from 50 shades of grey.
Came in soft*

I type too fast and typos are going to happen lol

Mullins is definitely a good athlete and longer than expected as well. He's a cool 3 but an ideal sized 2. My working comp for him is Klay Thompson. But that’s subject to change.

Karaban and Solo are really going to benefit when Tarris and Mullins are starting. They'll get a lot more open shots. It's going to be pick your poison.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Reed and Mullins should help both immeasurably. Mullins ability to work off the bounce and his quick release make playing him so difficult, and teams will likely try to shade players his way which should really open things up.

Demary needs to do some soul searching. terrible game from him when he should be one of our leaders in a tough environment.

he continues to play too passive and deferential. not stressing the defense at all with the ball in his hands, just looking for the next person to pass to.
But he is ptetty cool and reliable in the handle and distributer role, but sure he was no Triston Newton out there and he neefs to be

Mullins is probably going to be in the NBA next year and projects as much more than a glue guy. He’s the best player on the team.

You can be the best player on the team and still be the “glue guy”…in fact most of the best players in college bball are literally what hold their teams together.

I'm not worried about Demary. I believe he'll figure it out.

Ross/Stewart need to combine for better than 1 point though. I know Ross played well aside from that but both need to be threats offensively. We need one of them to be able to get Karaban a break here and there at least.

Mullins is going to eat minutes but some of that should be at the two when Ball rests, so there is still 20-25 minutes backing up the 3/4 and Karaban can't be expected to play 38 a night. I would much prefer being able to get that down to 30-32, especially once Reed is back.

Only because he was significantly bigger and a steady, reliable plodder. He had / has no touch comparable to Reibe, who is more like the two recent Big East great touch posts

Tristen Newton wasn't Tristen Newton on December 2 of his first year in Storrs.

The kid is acclimating to the most difficult position to play in a system that asks a lot of him. He'll be fine.

Ball and Mullins will be the best 3pt shooting duo in the country
Solo has got to slow down a little & stop tryna score 20 in 1 play & work on reading the situation & getting better shot selection … his game has evolved so much he’s just gotta let it come him more & stop forcing things but hopefully Mullins will help free up some more space for him so he won’t have to feel so much pressure to do it all scoring wise

Kansas basically played a perfect first half at home, and they were only up 4 at halftime and would go on to lose. This UConn team could be pretty good.

He didn’t. But he was so good in the paint it didn’t matter. He could get 20 and 10 off rim running and blocking shots.

Reibe is still learning that and getting better every game. Because of his skills though once he gets it down he’ll be a very very high level player capable of running an offense around.

The coaching staff is teaching him the fundamentals to playing the position though which I love. They do such a good job with bigs.

Interestingly, Hurley mentioned in the postgame that Mullins had injuries to both his ankle and his knee which may explain why he was out so long. Sounds like a little more serious than originally thought. Glad he is back and going full speed. A total difference maker on the court!
