Both had solid freshman seasons but seemed to never really progress much further. Josh Boone was definitely a better player than Olander even though his time in the NBA was short but it just seems like Olander is completely lost out there and is a far cry from the game where he was a pivotal piece in beating the Cuse zone back in 2011'
 
From a skills point of view TO is fine. It seems like he usually has a nice couple of plays and hits a baby hook or something in his minutes. But my god he is painfully slow and can't keep up with the quick athletic big men in this league.
 
I don't think Olander will be first round pick, and Boone was a true starter as a freshmen, Olander played about 5 minutes then went to the bench, Okwandu got the bulk of the minutes.
 
I get the parallel though.

Both guys seemingly had higher ceilings based on their freshman performances and contributions to national championship teams.

Playing next to Okafor might have magnified his freshman performance.

He is slow and does better against big slow centers which is odd to me because he plays soft so they should eat him up. I will say he was victimized by the UM guards penetrating and him being forced to help which left Goodwin & Co open for easy ones. To be fair, our other centers and forwards were victimized the same way.
 
Olander is not a high level d1 talent. Im glad we have him as hes a local kid, but he is a role player and would be a starter on a team like fairfield, like his brother ryan.

I was going to say the same thing. Check Boone's sophomore numbers. 12.4 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 3 bpg. He was pretty good his sophomore year. Can't even put Olander and Boone in the same sentence. Put a sophomore Boone in this line up and we'd be talking top 5 in the country.

Tyler Olander is an 'earned it' Champion; nothing more, nothing less. He's a senior in his final days.
Its time to just thank him for everything he's done; nothing more, nothing less.

 
Thought Tyler contributed during his limited playing time. We will need him the rest of the way.

There's essentially two threads killing TO (one killing KO for not playing Amida) about how they simply gave up layups. Yet, no one is talking about the fact that our guards were torched off the dribble all game. This has been happening all year. In the first half, Bazz got killed by Jackson on three straight possessions. Boat, for all of his quickness and athleticism, is often flat footed and guards with quickness seem to go by him with ease. Now, ideally, if this happens you have a big man who steps up AND a player (or two) who rotate. We did not have that. I'm not saying that TO did a great job, but to me the more pressing issue is how poor our perimeter D was to constantly force our big men to help/hedge.

Oh, and putting Boone and TO in the same sentence is laughable. As has been stated, Boone was a big contributor on a national championship team.(9ppg, 10rpg in the final four) while TO played a total of 12 minutes in the two final four games. Boone's sophomore year was excellent and his draft stock dropped with a really lackluster junior year where he *should* have been a 15 and 10 guy.
 
Tyler did a nice job in his limited time yesterday I agree and we will need him against different match ups I am sure as we move along.

But to put him and Josh in the same thread? If these guys had Boone you could take a couple more losses off at least………..Josh's only problem as a Husky were the expectations presented once he had that solid freshman year…………he was a very good Husky and many of his skills progressed as he moved along but he was never the focus point. Solid weak side rebounder and defender he would be a perfect fit for this team and his freshman year was beyond anything Tyler ever did!

Not busting balls Dad just throwing the comparison out there…….love to throw Josh into this years equation!

Boone had a big butt and was hard to move. Maybe he wasn't the offensive threat we'd hoped, but if he had position on you, you weren't moving him. Olander not so much.
 
TO wasn't really better as a freshman. If he was a freshman yesterday and came in for decent minutes and scored four points we would have been excited. As a senior, this performance is looked at very differently.
I don't remember his defense being this bad though. I loved years past when he helped us bust zones around the top of the key. His jumper was very reliable.

Never mentioned Josh in my post. I would love to have him this year. From the waist down he was a monster. Really not that similar to me, but I'll take them both.
 
Unfortunately, Tyler's offcourt indiscretions have made him nonexistent leadership wise. As a Senior even with limited playing time he should have been able to exert more leadership like a Morgan Valley for the women.

You think that is why? I don't. Neither incident was horrible and the players seemed to think the driving blunder was well-intended even if stupid.

The attention Emeka got certainly made his life easier. You can make the case that both were betters 4s than 5s.
 
JB and TO are not the same type of player and weren't recruited for the same purpose. JB was recruited to be Okafor's successor, TO was recruited to be a bench player behind Bynum/Drummond/Oriakhi. His career to date has probably exceeded JC's highest expectations for him. I don't get the constant hate directed at the kid.

Bynum was in the NBA for 5 years by the time TO came here, and he was here before Drummond as well
 
I remember the Boone saga very well. His best year was his Freshman year, just a dominant rebounder that season, probably the best we ever had.

His Sophomore year started out even better, he looked like he was on his way to being a superstar and then I believe he contracted mono. He missed about 6 weeks to recover and when he came back he was never the same. He was a good player but enigmatic and seemed disinterested at times. He was a first round pick but he was never the dominate rebounding force he was before he contracted mono. (we couldn't even out rebound George Mason)

That's how I remember it.

He did start out great his sophomore year. He was averaging around 20 ppt and 12 rpg and was being compared favorably to Emeka. But then he trailed off. I don't remember anything about mono. He started every game (31 games) so he didn't miss any games.

OK, maybe my memory is a little off, but I know something happened early his sophomore year that seemed to wreck his trajectory. It was very noticeable that he was no longer the same player and he never got the mojo back.
 
The regression is there, but their games were quite different. Boone was never more than 3 feet away from the basket.
