Not only was he good for a step over base line once a game but also 2-3 travels. He also had shoe horns instead oh hands. If they counted turnovers as shots he would have shot 20% instead if 50%.

Wasn't Hayes from Hartford or something? He looked like a gang banger in my teenage eyes.

This article on Hayes makes Uconn and JC look awful. Hayes was arrested for selling over a pound of weed to and under cover just months before appearing with coach at an elementary school for some speaking assembly.

The courant didn't do us any favors there.

Selvie was a street brawler who had a real decent shot fro 15 feet but everytime he got the ball all he wanted to do was slam it in someones face ala shaq. his second year he was a bit more inclined to use his overall offensive skills, due in part to jc using the bench as a coaching tool against johnnie. he was an active offensive rebounder but was always finding himself coming down with the ball out of bounds, this drove jc and dave laeto nuts. he was really good on the fast break and loved the running game. however, good for at least 1 shuffling the feet call a game. defensively you could count on him collecting a foul within 2 minutes of stepping on the court and always fouling someone in the act of shooting at least twice a game and we used to call him the rally killer-seeming to foul when we were on a run. but played effectively with 4 fouls and i dont remember him fouling out many times. a huge trash talker. but he played hard and when he put his mind to it proved to be a really good defensive player. always never seemed into it during warm-ups and half asleep.
overall, a gamer who was a streetballer and probably a streetbrawler. always felt like he had no family and considered the uconn community his family. i think jc has a special feeling towards johnnie s.

Ah, those were the days. Every team needs someone that scares the **** out of people and makes you wonder just what exactly they're doing on a college campus.

He's in my avatar.

I thought he was pretty useful in the most entertaining loss in UConn history. That Maryland game in Syracuse was unbelievably good.

I partied w/Johnnie when I lived in Celeron - but only b/c our door was open b/c it was hot as balls and he just walked in and said "who wants to party?"

Several hours later he's passed out on our couch. Wakes up, says ", ni****, i best roll out" stands up and walks out. that was 2003.

Sounds like he was on the wrong end of JCs quick hook pretty often if that was the case

Oddly enough no. Because Johnny hustled, banged hard down low, rebounded and ran.

Selvie gets a bad rap.

Basically, he averaged 11 pts and six rebounds a game for two years - he shot over 50% per game. Had some tunnel vision when he got the ball, but was generally a very useful player. He was just a rougher personality than the debutantes here tend to favor.

My favorite Johnnie moment was during the Arizona game when Eugene Edgerson was doing his faux-retro tough guy routine and Johnnie threatened to punch him in the mouth.

With some guys, I don't want the ball coming back out if they get it down low. I liked Johnnie's shooting a lot more than I liked Johnnie's passing.

Anyone remember that dunk he threw down at the end of the 2002 BET championship game against Pitt? That was one hard flush.

I hope anyone who has read all the way through this thread has laughed out loud at least three times.
