If they were in a reigion with 3 Big East teams, yes. But they weren't. Also, UConn has played SU three times. UConn played UC once.
 
This is a dumb thread. The NCAA has always loved to create these sort of match-ups in the tournament.

Anyone who has been paying attention cannot be surprised about this path for UConn - we're definitely an 8-9 type of team and we knew we would not be matched up against Syracuse, so what the hell did you expect?

Nothing wrong with this set up for UConn. And if you beat the one seed in round two, you become the one seed.

I don't love the draw, but this point here is key. It's what Butler did last year, and a number of other teams have done in the past.

It's not likely, but it is not improbable.

Wasn't UConn 34th? So in theory they moved up 1 slot into the 32/33 game.
 
The S curve always gets adjusted slightly in order to prevent in conference match-ups (which must be avoided unless there are more than eight schools from one conference). Moving a school up or down one or two spots (especially in the middle of the pack) is not something to get worked up over.

Yes, based on what I read they weren't a perfect S-curve match. There are so many variables, I don't see how anyone could attribute anything to Hathaway.
 
It was either going to be KY, UNC at home...let's beat Iowa St and then worry about it. I think a KY game will be fun if it happens....watching Calipari sweat and pace after Davis picks up his 4th foul with 10 mins left down by 6 at home....can't wait but Iowa St first.

Probably because the 34 would have been matched up with Syracuse.

So if they dropped us, it would have been UNC in NC; if they bump us up, its UK in KY.

Oh well, they did this to themselves.
 
I like our bracket and seeding. Drummond shows scouts why they should stop drooling over Anthony Davis. Lamb on Lamb goes our way. I say we knock off an overrated Ky. afyter squeaking by an underrated Iowa St.

The S-curve breaks down on the first line. Hathaway admitted that Missouri was the committee's 8 overall seed, so they should be in Kentucky's region (the top 1). If it breaks down at the top of the curve, they certainly aren't going to be true to it in the middle, where there's really no difference between anyone seeded 7-10.

Plus the RPI is not the committee's seed. Syracuse is No. 1 in the RPI, but Kentucky is the No. 1 seed. To my knowledge, the NCAA does not release the information on where every team was ranked by the committee from 1-68 (beyond the No. 1 seeds).

They supposedly did today at 7:00 on TruTV. I didn't watch it, though.

My main thing with a potential UK matchup is that if Cal has any brains MKG will be on Lamb when we're in a 2G set and he definitely will be on him in a 3G set, that is about the worst possible matchup you want covering Lamb. MKG is a beast defensively and he would make it a physical game.

No doubt the NCAA placed us in our bracket with the hope and expectation that UConn will fail within the first weekend. One of the worst teams at defending the three against an otherwise evenly matched opponent, playing a team who routinely plays 4 excellent 3 point shooters. Then if we are fortunate enough to sneak by them, we have to face the overall number one seed, who has been dominate all season.

But whatever, at least we have a fighting chance and if we have even the chance to eliminate the extreme evil of Calipari and his minions, it would make up for all other disappointments this season!
 
The system did what it's supposed to do. We did not have a good enough regular season to be rewarded with an easy draw.

I understand, but I feel the best time to face a team like KY is right after they dispose of an easy opponent in game one. They expect to beat us, that's when upsets happen. I'm actually more concerned about Iowa St.

That would be more true if they had cakewalked to the SEC Tournament championship. The fact that they lost means that they'll be that much more focused, even after dispatching a cupcake in Round 1.
 
Playing the #1 ranked team in the country is a great opportunity. You have to beat ranked teams to advance. Once you get to the sweet 16 almost all the teams are ranked. So UConn hits a ranked team a game early. The pressure is on the Wildcats believe me, they are not excited to play UConn so early.
 
Screwed us over? Come on. You think Calipari wants to see UConn in the 2nd round. Theres only a few teams in the country that can athletically match up with Kentucky and we just so happen to be one of them. Do you really think Kentucky wants to see a team with two lottery picks and a hall of fame coach in the second round? Oh, and that team with 2 lottery picks and a hall of fame coach has a chip on their shoulder, is the defending national champion, and played the 3rd hardest SOS . Kentucky got screwed over here.
 
I don't think UK is the one screwing us rather it is the group that has been trying to screw us for the last 3 years plus one new imcompetent - Jeff!
