Nice moment. But east their ilk have no business being in the public school state tournament.

What state tournament do they belong in, CT has 5 divisions already and it is watered down as is - whats the suggestion to change it - just catholic schools have a division, schools of choice (does that include CREC since you choose to go there). East is what is is, same as Northwest which used to dominate....its a small state the last thing we need is to break out more divisions etc to give out more trophies

Mass has a catholic school only state tourney. Their recruiting base is way bigger than even a LL or class 5 like Windsor.

It’s a joke.

Not sure when that started in mass, but it wasn't true for the 28 years I coached.

Maybe it wasn’t mass. I thought it was. Either way it’s a very simple and obvious solution to the plague that is schools like east and those kinds of schools.

Go back to the old 4 and a catholic school tourney.

Still only 5 tournaments.

Fail to see how it differs from the ability for city students to move about - New Haven/Hamden, Hartford, Waterbury, etc. The Catholic schools do not have recruiting budgets, East is simply riding a wave of popularity at the moment. High probability they will come down to earth next year. School choice is a good thing and makes D1 basketball fun to watch. Congrats to East, Windsor had a great year.

Catholic schools aren't limited to kids in their own town. They may not recruit, but the best teams at a Catholic school have kids driving miles to play for the better teams.

Just curious...What about those Catholic high schools that have small enrollments and not exceptional teams ( like St Paul’s) ...and not represent a “plague”...Where would you have them play?

East doesn't have a "recruiting budget." It's built into the coaches pay.

They also don't have "scholarships." I can assure you they find ways to make it happen. Even in their lesser known sports.

4 divisions + a catholic school tournament. Please. It's a joke, currently.

Need a separate tournament for Catholic Schools. You have a big advantage over public schools who draw from one town. Coached in a small public school and never had a fair chance to compete.
No matter what anybody says they RECRUIT.

No question.

It’s not that hard to understand.

I’m baffled how people can just ostrich up on this issue

Lol yeah the budget is built in to Luke’s contract that’s why he has to teach at Glastonbury. Luke would win anywhere he goes

The whole 5 division system is problematic. How does a school like New Canaan with a boys enrollment (9>12) of 679 end up in the same division as Granby with a boys enrollment of 342? Windsor has a male enrollment of 592 compared to 314 of East Catholic. East Catholic was the only parochial school to make the finals.

They don’t need a separate tournament. We need bigger school districts. Or less whiney coaches. Or better ones.

What we don't need are teams with an 8-12 record making the tourney number one and number two make all games played at neutral sites like div 1 did this year

Sorry, you gotta count all the towns of where players on the team come from when counting enrollment for a school like east

So you want the divisions based on how many towns a school pulls its enrollment from? What about the Tech, AG, and other public schools of choice or co-op programs - where do you place them?

I get your public/private point but its not that simple - same problem arises in other sports.

It's always been very simple to me. Public schools and private schools (whether parochial or otherwise) play by different rules as to where they get students from. Why should they play for the same championships.

I don't know how many public school classes there should be, but the number should be determined based on public schools only. As to how private schools divide up for championships, totally up to them. Not my business.
