I think there's a path to 10 minutes between the 1 and 2 spots for him even with a backup PG coming in, assuming he's ready. And there's no reason to think he won't be even if he's a little skinny

Regardless of what you think he's contributed so far in his career, he's got the backing of the coaching staff. That's better than Boneyard approval I think.

And he's a great kid too. I'll be rooting for him to show what he's got.

Depending on how the portal shakes out I’m willing to take wagers on Ross starting.

If we don’t bring in a transfer at his position he'll start. We arent starting an undersized freshman (for thr 3) or a lowly ranked one at a position we need size and defense at.

And Ross will end up just fine offensively in large part because he will have a bigger role and more rope and the confidence of being one of the upperclassman leaders.

Yes, I have. And I think he'll get similar minutes to what Solo Ball got freshman year and be somewhere around that 9th man in the rotation

Agree. I noticed that Houstons seasonal minutes by players went from the low 30's down to 8 mins for the number 10 man. That says something about rotations that grind other teams down; especially in the last 10 mins. Hope our staff takes a long look at that and considers pressure attack dogs as well as our vaunted offense. Really looking forward to the finalization of the roster and hoping the leaders will provide an example of getting to the gym early this summer ala Sanogo, Andre and others.

And the strays Furphy is catching is crazy.

According to Hurley he has phenomenal upside with athleticism. I think he just needs confidence. He's not dealing with the same issues as Samson who came from the other side of the world and had limited time with the game. Seems to me that Kimani Young has some unique qualities in building up young players and getting them to believe in themselves.

As easy as he let the freshmen go into the portal, it really makes me wonder how much of an emotional decision maker he can be, as he seems glued to this sophomore group. Just throwing it out there, but might he be attached to anything connected with the NC teams?

Danny loves Jayden and 100% there is an emotional attachment to this group. He may even give Jayden a more extended look and chance to succeed. Ultimately, like we heard and then saw, Jayden still has to perform. If he does, awesome. If its a repeat like last year, Danny will play him less as the season progresses.

I think he's attached to experience, the freshman didn't earn much of it. Hopefully this years class is different, or Adams, Reibe etc. may transfer next season.

So your theory is that there is no chance he can improve from his sophomore to junior year? It is impossible "no chance" for him to be a meaningful contributor?

611 (poster) flashed some hypothetical (personal dream) starting lineup of Reed, Solo, Stew, Ross & Silas. That is not a starting 5 I'm doing jumping jacks over.

It feels good to bring our homegrown back and I know it's easy to get the warm and fuzzies over bringing the band back and to dream of the "leap". This feels very Shaka Smartish. I'd rather go get talent that has shown success when that option exists, in at least a couple spots.

I agree. Reed, Stewart, Solo...I'm all in. But Ross really hasn't done anything in 2 seasons. I just don't see him being an impact player, at least on the offensive side of things. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I agree with you that the "leap" is pretty unlikely.

Happy he’s back. Any team would love a player of his size and athleticism coming off the bench next year. Who’s going to guard Kedary Richmond when Ball or Demary need a breather? Richmond is 6‘6“, 23 years old fast and tough. You’re gonna need someone like Ross on him for some minutes.

I definitely think this is possible. The next step in his evolution is mental. He needs to be more decisive and exhibit better decision making on offense. He passes up open shots and drives into traffic without really knowing his options. He doesn't really seen to have chemistry with anyone on offense. He needs to earn the trust of his teammates. Some of this should come in minutes and practice. But it is not there right now. On defense it is simpler. He is pretty good already. Learn the scouting report. Know where the help is.

Can it happen, can he step up? Sure. Will it happen?

A tad off topic but I feel this coming team needs to run to really exploit some of the players best attributes (Stew and Ross especially). Don't get me wrong, I love the halfcourt offense but once Diarra got hurt it felt like there was no fastbreaking at all.

Maybe not the best comp? The “investment” in Mahaney as far as minutes go was because we literally had no other options. We’ve got a lot of talent at Ross’ positions. He’ll need to earn it more than Mahaney did.

I agree, the rules changed. I don't think you can recruit with the long game in mind anymore. They are looking for frosh to contribute.

I agree with you. My sense with Ross was he looked rushed especially on offense
