Jayden Ross Returning!!!

That somewhere in the middle people are hoping we bring in a portal player or start Mullins over him as well.

Yee of little faith
No one is hoping based on the players - but the potential of the team. I want the best player to start and if that’s Ross, I don’t think it says much about the alternatives. Dude did you look at his metrics? He’s in the red.

It's not irrational to hold the opinion that Ross has not yet demonstrated that he should be starting. I'm not going to get in a protracted back and forth on this but just hoping a kid makes a leap and entrenches himself as a starter without any kind of plan B is a great way to set yourself up for disappointment. I honestly don't know how anyone who's been paying attention could disagree with that.

Happy he’s back. Any team would love a player of his size and athleticism coming off the bench next year. Who’s going to guard Kedary Richmond when Ball or Demary need a breather? Richmond is 6‘6“, 23 years old fast and tough. You’re gonna need someone like Ross on him for some minutes.
Kadary has another year? News to me

Ross got 4.4 minutes as a freshman and 11.4 this past season. I don't think he's returning to just be a practice player.
Yeah, he kinda is. The guys we’re Bringing in are all better than he is. He is a nice experienced back up who is pretty limited but has that so he won’t panic we hope.

.-.
No it’s not irrational.

Just for me personally, it’s annoying seeing our fans constantly be so quick to write off and recruit over these talented players.

The other way to look at it is having the expectation he’s ready to make that leap and put trust in him is a great way to give him the confidence he needs to make that leap and be the player he can be.

Him making that leap is better than any transfer we can bring in.
I call this the Hilton Bias . The Boneyars anssumes that Every guy who plays a few minutes is going to have the same degree of improvement as Hilton did.

Every time I read a 611 post these days, my mind immediately thinks:

I watch games, not numbers. Metrics mean absolutely zilch to me. Metrics had Mahaney being better than Solo this past year too.
and tell me a game you watched besides a few minutes of the away Marquette game where Ross showed ANYTHING positive for a period of time that lasted longer than 10 seconds. You can't, because it doesn't exist. Sometimes the numbers actually don't lie.

Than ANY transfer we can bring in?? No, that's not irrational at all

LOL

Here I go again getting into this but a couple things.

1. "Giving a guy confidence" by ensuring that there is no one to challenge him for playing time is an insane coaching risk that verges on malpractice.

2. There are objectively better players than Ross in the portal in terms of what they have actually accomplished in college to date. So if by "leap" you mean he shows up next year as one of the best players in the country at his position, fine, but at this point that's just wishcasting by you.

I think everyone hopes he blows up but it's not rational to just assume it's going to happen and it's doubly irrational to say it's not going to happen because we bring in someone else.

.-.
He had the worse defensive metrics on the team last year. Him being this will require quite the leap and wishful thinking.
Well he had no handle and wasn’t a great shooter so why are there 3 exclamation marks after his name in the thread title?
Defense will be his focus.

And then there's this. On the somewhat slim chance that Alex comes back, Ross will hardly see the floor. No, Ross doesn't play the 4; but that's 28 - 30 minutes not available.

Mullins barely mentioned in this thread. Ross is not taking his minutes whether he (Mullins) is 6th man or starts.

5) 40 mins no matter how much Reed plays.
4) 40 mins Alex + ???. Definitely not Ross.
3)Stewart, Mullins 30 mins
2) Ball 25, Mullins slides 5
1) Demary 30

Granted, this is kind of a mess. Alex is the key to Ross' minutes. As above has 170 of 200 minutes taken. If it understates Ball and overstates Mullins, it's a wash. Danny's getting a backup PG. He does not want Ross there. Adams and Furphy ????

It's kind of wild how little Mullins gets mentioned here and 611 seems to think it's laughable he would play over Ross.

Mullins is one of the best recruits we've ever had.

No way Solo plays just 25.

I'm glad to hear Ross is back. I'm of the position that he'll have to fight to hit the floor but I think he has the potential - we saw some glimmers, right? Some of this depends on Alex, portal, and just how good this incoming class is. My hunch is we're going to see more freshman playing than some here think.

Good job, now the idiots will jump on a comment I made before actually watching Cam and ignore this one before the season which pretty much nailed exactly how the season went. (With BigErn laughing at the thought we could’ve possibly have been better)
Not sure why everyone is so upset at you, that is an elite take.

LOL! This is a post of yours from the Cam transfer thread, where you were arguing with everyone that we should let Ross/Stewart/Ball (as freshmen) replace Hawkins and didn’t need Cam.

Honestly though, Ball has played well when starting this year and playing a good amount last year. I'm not saying Cam wasn't needed but the thought process is not horrid there.

In this day and age, I guess it is always good when one of your recruits actually decides to stay in your program. I’m not sure what better options Ross would have had though if he wanted to play on an elite team. Hurley sees him in practice everyday. He must see things that he is capable of doing that we haven’t seen at all over the past two years. I hope that he is able to figure things out.

Stop the childish bickering. Use the ignore feature.

The Boneyard definitely has a survival of the fittest theme. Ask anyone who you haven't seen posting in a while.

As for natural selection - The Boneyard has been around since Aug 1998, and we've grown every year since day one. Darwin would have had a chapter in his book about The Boneyard.

Excited to see what leaps the Sophomores make to Junior year (Stewart and Ross) since that is typically the best leap. Solo was special rising from Frosh to Soph with a great leap, so hope he gets even better!

Gonna be great to see which Freshmen step up immediately.
