I've been racking my mind for a comparison for Jayden Ross and it finally popped, Reggie Lewis.

Jayden's height, build and game reminds me of Reggie's. I think Jayden has a larger wingspan and might have a tad more hops, but I think the comparison is solid.

There's probably a more recent comparison, current or more recently retired player, but I can't think of any.

Anyone else have a better one.

Please slow down, let the guy accomplish something before we compare him to a legend

It's a good comparison. I've been doing the same thing, trying to match him up. He's such a live wire out there. Who knew

Wow... I mean... Reggie's quickness was off the charts. Outside shooting was unbelievably good. Reggie was ticketed for the HOF

If he can just offset some of the loss of Newton and play solid defense, the team will be in good shape. The team just needs guys to make the next step.
Ross does have the skills though to affect the game in a few different ways.

Lighten up ace. .
Not sure why you reacted to that. Just saying I, like many others here, often try to draw player comparisons to players we've seen in the past or current players.

Jayden's size and game reminds me of Lewis. It wasn't to raise any expectations. I have no idea what his ceiling will be. I think he's going to be special. Hurley claimed he is one of the best players on the team, which I wondered was an exaggeration. But after seeing him play, now I'm wondering if he meant it.

I'm just going to enjoy seeing him develop as the season goes on.

OMG off of one game against UNH??? This board has completely lost its mind.

Then would you say Hurley lost his mind as well based on what he's said about Jayden?

Again, I was just trying to come up with a comparison. That's all. I changed the title of the thread. Does that help?

Wasn't predicting that Ross is the second coming of the next great HOF and future NBA all-star. Geez Louise! Just thought of a comparison and wondered what others thought.

I'm very excited to see how he develops. Based on how little run he got last season, I was surprised how dynamic and confident a player he was last night. Let's see as the season goes if my comparison is so crazy, even though it was just a raw comparison.

I really am kind of shocked that this was so much of a surprise. He looked capable last year but only played during mop up time.

I was also somewhat surprised that some thought he was not athletic. Even in the limited run he got last year it was kind of obvious he was very quick for his size. He was rushing because he wanted to put something on game tape in the two minutes he was on the floor.

I look forward to seeing him develop more confidence and game experience. Let’s see where he is at mid season. We could have something special, I hope we do, because if it happens it just makes us such a better team. A 6’7” high flying all around player who can guard 1 through 3 and create havoc for the opponent.

And FWIW I like the Lewis comp!

Just seeing his skills on display for the first time is going to raise expectations, but we have so many quality players and only so much floor time to divvy up.

Unfortunately people can be a little lost on what "comparison" means. They cant grasp the concept of A reminds me of B when i look at it and it has nothing to do with the same results. Its just a visual comparison. Dont worry man i got you and i agree. I could not come up with a comparison myself. (Edit) Let me say i do have a comparison but i know better than to mention it because i dont want to be flooded with the same endless stream of roasts for having an opinion. Most here would think i lost my mind.

His drives to the hoop reminded me of Ray, especially that second one.

Hurley says he can guard 1-4. Very few players on the planet can do that at a high level. He moves real well on defense, quick feet, length, long arms, plus athlete. The X factor is he had a late growth spurt, and has been the most improved kid in the program over the past year. He should continue to add skills; Post game, pull ups, defending post, defending the pick and roll. This kids ceiling is a first team All American and lottery pick if it all comes together. He should watch tape on Scottie Pippen.

I have to say, I was extremely impressed by JR. I thought he'd be the odd man out, but he accepted the challenge and clearly put in the work. Man, this team is stacked. I've said it before, but our bench is a Top 25 roster.

Even before reading your post I was thinking about how little we know early on as to how some of the younger players are developing and who will end up in the rotations.

Few, if any, here on the yard had Ross getting much of a run this season over other players on the roster. When I saw some preseason clips, plus what little we saw during end of blowout games last season, I thought maybe he'll get a few rotation minutes in some of the games. It's early, but now it looks like he'll have a solid role in this year's team if he continues to learn and develop. I'm so impressed with his demeanor, how he's playing like he knows he should be out there. Let's see how he does when the competition and athleticism is much higher and the outcome of the game is far from certain.

Props to the staff for seeing his potential and successfully recruiting and developing him. Props to JR for learning and working so hard.

Who would have imagined he'd be ahead of Stewart at this stage? Just shows you how little we know when we try to predict who plays, who starts and who sits.

This team has so many talented parts. I'm both fascinated and curious as to how Hurley and staff develops, utilizes and combines all this talent.

Tarris Reed reminds me of Coolidge from The White Shadow.

Seeing him really close up, I don’t believe any glimpse of him last year would give the impression that he could affect the game quite the way he did vs UNH. Like he seemed to be playing with a different gear and intensity level. Again, limited sample size and an outmatched opponent. But a whole lot to like. Hope it is the norm for him.

Any comps with young Ross are way too premature. He looks nice. He looks dangerous. But it was NH!!! By the way, where are the people who during the Summer kept saying Stewart was heading to the League after this year?????? This is a fun team. A young team. They should be better in January/February. Nowell will be heard of. Abraham will be heard of. But there will be growing pains!!!
