Bob Corwin on the recent John Wall Invitational:

Teonni Key 6-3 2021 Cary High School (North Carolina)

Key is an obvious Power 5 prospect. A forward with great size and mobility, she can handle the ball, attack the basket and even shoot the three. At times, she needs to be more active in moving without the ball to get open on a team where she is the featured player. In keeping with that, her teammates need to try harder to get her the ball.

Saniya Rivers 6-1 2021 Ashley High School (North Carolina)

Rivers was the consensus top underclass prospect at the event, considered by many top 10 in the 2021 class. An athletic combo guard, she handles the ball well able to forcefully attack the basket. She has great passing vision and can create shots for herself and teammates. At times she forced up shots as help around her appeared lacking. Most impressive was her great patience with teammates in spite of them often failing to complete the scoring opportunity she set up for them.

I assume Hopkins won. Score?

Ashlon Jackson – 2022 – 5-10 – Point Guard/Guard – (China, TX – HTX Fire 16 Rodriguez) –

Ultra-mature framed guard would easily be confused with high school senior…Ran point and delivered on-time/on-target passes to open players while still creating her own offense…Very unselfish…Has blow-by ability and nightmare strength for defenders…Deep three range…Clean, effortless release…Elite prospect…Watch closely

Ashlon Jackson – 2022 – 6-0 – Point Guard – HTX Fire 2019 -Big time young point…Multiple tools for age…Great size and strength to go along with some flare and shake with the ball…Hard to ask for much more

Jackson has been a star player for the Lady Hawks since she was a freshman, and in that short time has amassed 1,008 total points midway through her sophomore season.

....

“She’s so unselfish,” Fogo said. “I’ve been joking with my assistants that she should be at 1,500 points by now.”

Jackson always could score, but she has refined her arsenal at all three levels to become a more complete scoring threat. Her mid-range shooting is something that Jackson has made an extra effort to perfect.

...

Jackson has proved her basketball prowess since the first time she stepped on the court at Hardin-Jefferson. In her first season as a Lady Hawk, she averaged 17.6 points, 6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and four steals per game.

“It’s threefold. Her vision, her court awareness is special and her physical presence is unmatched,” head coach Mike Fogo said of his young point guard’s playmaking ability.

...

After an impressive freshman year, Jackson was invited by USA Basketball to participate in the U-16 national team trials. Of the 146 players invited she was one of the 18 finalists, but wasn’t selected for the 12-player roster.

"If she could choose a college to sign with she'd pick UConn."

Wow, she is a great talent, and appears to have her priorities in order. Let’s hope she doesn’t change her mind about UConn in the next 4 years. What a great addition and influence she would be to other players in the program. I know UConn does not like to offer HS freshmen. I hope they keep an eye on her, and stay in touch until she makes a decision. They could let her set up in the corner and try and get her open looks.
