January General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

Miami isn’t the 9 or 10 seed I want to see 1 or 2 seed UConn possibly play in March. But way too soon for posts like that.

Miami Ohio? They are a fun watch. 2 straight OT wins to get to 20-0. I hope they can win the next 5. If so I will definitely make the trip up to Amherst Feb 17

I missed most of the Kansas-Colorado game except for last ten minutes or so. Council had some nice plays down the stretch although he was probably out of bounds on the stolen inbounds pass.

Since Vaughn was the HC in Self’s absence, did anyone notice if Peterson’s usage was different? He did play 32 minutes.

Does anyone know if there are any rules in place to handle the potential of 2 seed Houston being placed in Houston for the South Regional? Is anything in place to prevent it from happening? Obviously it would royally screwed over a 1 seed. Because in the current bracketology, we are the 1 seed in the South Region (finals played in Houston). They have Nebraska as our 2 seed. Seems the consensus is if Duke has a similiar resume they will be sent to DC I saw one projection that had us in Houston with Texas Tech as our 4 and Houston as our 2 seed. That would be 2 road games. A nightmare scenario to keep an eye on.
You can't be the "host" and be placed there, and I believe there's a max number of games you can play in the arena and still be placed in the region. But I believe Houston got someone else to host it (Rice), and it's the Rocket's arena not their home arena so they're eligible.

Mick's always been a big complainer.
Yup. He's at it again. Even after a win over Purdue!

"I want to thank the Big Ten for giving us five of our first seven on the road, bringing Purdue here on Thursday (sic Tuesday) night when we don't get back in L.A. until Saturday night and giving us the team picked to win the league on two days' rest after five of our first seven on the road," Cronin said in his postgame news conference. "Really, I want to thank the Big Ten for that."

He later added: "I don't think they care about basketball. Truly. That's just my opinion."

"We're in a league in the Midwest. So that's just gonna be what it's gonna be," Cronin said, reiterating: "But you ain't got to play five of the first seven on the road, and then come home and get the team picked to win the league on two days' rest."

I don't know, I think he's right. There shouldn't be conferences that span four time zones, or if there are they should be football only. Mick's annoying but the Big 10 as currently constituted is stupid for basketball

What’s the solve?

It’d be horrible for any one seed to get a path that exclusively rewards the two seed ranked below them

Texas Tech AND Houston in the South is borderline despicable

I missed all of it. Way too late for me. He only played 8 guys, so that's shorter than the usual bench. 4 guys over 30 minutes is a bit much.

Don't know how feasible it really is, but split off football so they can have their mega conferences, and somehow reconstitute the old geographic-based groupings for everything else (even if they're under the banner of the mega conferences).

We all know they've needed to do this, but they won't.

I understand conference realignment has been talked to death and there's a whole board for it, but none of it makes sense. They make exceptions all the time when it suits some purpose.

U. of Denver being a member of the Big East for lacrosse is my favorite example

Maybe you should have thought about that before joining a midwest league

The NCAA/P4(5/6) are 0-whatever against serious anti-trust lawsuits, and will lose the next suit too. The schools have been afraid to sue other schools, but that won't last forever.

The only one I remember them winning is the Zakai Zeigler one.
