Sure, maybe for some kids. But Carey literally said it matters to him. I know Samuels said it too, but there isn't a huge drop off from the ACC to the Big East.In that the style of play of the team you play for is much more important to your success than the style of play of the opponents, yes. Good players need to be able to play well against any opponent. But they don't need to play well within every system.
