Jacobs says it!

You know, I don’t disagree. I used to be hell bent on this. I thought we needed it and I still think it will sell tickets which brings in $$ which so many here seem to take for granted. But at the end of the day it’s not that important to me any more. I don’t think we need it, we’ve moved on. Recruiting is rocking in NE and the conference and it’s recruiting is beyond my expectations. If it happens then great, if it doesn’t I’ve come to learn PC will do just fine without it.

From all accounts it didn't sell many tickets at an attractive venue for a very worthy charity cause. I doubt the few thousand extra tickets that might get sold for this game instead of one vs. The Little Sisters of the Poor aren't gonna make or break either school's athletics budget.

I don't understand this reply.

But I did reread your OP, and can see what late night reading comprehension can do to a man.

Fans would love it, and we eliminate two or three cupcakes a year

I thought you meant we could eliminate (as in beat the pants off of) 2-3 cupcakes a year (ie PC, SJU, BC). lol

OK, then I retract my statement, just a misunderstanding between us

I took your initial response to mean we shouldn't be scheduling the local former rivals and replacing the cupcakes because PC killed us in our first exhibition game :)

and I'm just tired of people attacking our team (and me) after playing one exhibition game on October 25, it's all just so surreal to me

This again.

Repeat after me, "This game does nothing for us. It does not increase national exposure. We do not gain in stature for beating Providence. We only look worse by losing. There is no recruiting advantage to playing Providence. It is in most years a net negative to our out of conference RPI."

The only people yearning for this game are Yankee and Big East conference nostalgics.

This week's exhibition was the optimal scenario for us. Play a local game against s decent tram that doesn't drag down the schedule by taking up a precious non-con game slot.

The question isn't swapping PC for ECU, it is swapping PC for Arizona or Cuse at MSG.

Choices need to be made and PC is never a good choice.

Play them when it's to our advantage. Only at Mohegan. Being in a crappy conference we cannot afford to lose to them. Their outlook has changed, they are now a little better with Cooley. But their fans still regard beating us as the final game in the NCAA tournament!!!!

I would play an exhibition for charity every Oct with PC.

Would be fun.

This is about UConn playing PC not Syracuse playing PC. You understand that, right?

Syracuse has HOF coach and tons of NBA players. When PC win more than one NCAA game in a quarter century, we can about them.

Like I said we don't need it anymore, and we don't need to play Syracuse who I could never give more than two craps about anyway, A coach will leave that school and things will change there too. Times have changed a lot like they eventually always do and subbadumbdumb you might want to check who would be hurting who's rpi over the last 4 years with that trend continuing which anybody but the most biased can see. I know you makeup crap in your head and post it on the cesspool but here can you at least make an attempt at getting it right? And anything past since the split is ancient history, glory days as they say, believe me I know what wishing for the past looks like. It looks like this board.

Gosh, what are you going to be like once PC has won 2 NCAA games?

So you say FriarJ.

I'll probably troll a little harder. Subbadumbdumbs comments are appropriate 5-10 years ago but not today. Anybody with half a brain knows this. Don't want PC on the schedule fine, I have no problem with that, everybody has an opinion. Many PC fans don't care if we play UConn. But to say PC hurts your RPI is ridiculous.

Having PC on our schedule with the way PC is going would be a good thing for UConn. Help out RPI, create a game that fans care about.

I like basketball so I would like the game. But, just remember, Jim Calhoun has forgotten to flush things that have 1 fewer NCAA wins than PC in the last 25 years.

Jim Calhoun? I forgot he was still there. I should consult with Dave Gavitt and see what he thinks about a game. So recent NCAA success is all that matter when scheduling? Eventually they will make a run as its all about matchups and then all of a sudden they are deemed worthy? BTW, PC has 4 wins in the last 25 years, still short of your conference mate Tulsa. So you are very fortunate to have them in your conference and on the schedule every year.

I have a question, would Jm Calhoun (probably yes), Dee Rowe or George Blaney be in the stands if that charity game was against (pick a team in your conference)?

Yes. All three do massive amounts for charity. Next question?

I don't have anymore. It's all good. Good luck to Cuse and UConn this year. PC will just go on its way and hope to pick up a scrap recruit from time to time that Cuse and UConn never wanted and then hope to eventually make a run if the stars align.

Why don't you act like you've been.... oh, sorry. Never mind.

Hmm, not sure if my reply should be "finally" or ""

I’m not really sure why people give FriarJ a hard time on this. Playing PC is more exciting than every single conference game we play with the exception of Cincinnati, and it’s close on that one. Cooley is recruiting well and they are playing well. We don’t need an annual game with them because it doesn’t gain us anything. However, it seems pretty obvious that Cooley has figured out how to keep them on the course to success and relevance without playing us too. I don’t think FriarJ is out of line here at all. If you kick him in the nuts he’s bound to respond given that they’ve been better than us for 3 straight years and they just pummeled us in a scrimmage to start year 4. Time to accept he isn’t doing anything but not letting UConn fans piss on his shoes.

I would like to play PC if they are going to offer us a solid RPI opponent. I think it is safe to say that a home and home over the next two seasons will certainly accomplish that. I want butts in seats and PC is much better than Monmouth for selling tickets. I also want to start seeing UConn teams that can beat PC out the gate each year rather than the slow start garbage I’ve been seeing. If I don’t get it pretty soon I’m going to be calling for the Danny Hurley era at UConn to begin in the fall of 2018.

Because he's copping at little attitude on the BY after one exhibition win. Internet board visitor etiquette 101: Talk smack before, be humble in either victory or defeat afterwards.

To paraphrase the great Jim Calhoun:
hc-jim-calhoun-documentary-0927-20140926

"Win a championship and then come back and see me."

Jim Calhoun would take the crap you guys give the Friars fans about 2 seconds before he got perturbed and that was before he won even one championship. At least I waited 3 seconds, and you know this is true 82. A little trolling (to you) hurts your feelings? You can only have it happen from teams of championship teams? No, toughen the up. He would say that also. Read through this thread again and tell me again I'm out of line.

I wonder how you will feel tomorrow when you find out PC got badly beat in an exhibition by Carelton tonight, they are 15-2 this year on their exhibition tour including beating Vanderbilt twice and Alabama two day ago. I know how I will feel, it's an exhibition.

I don't see it. I think people are being very thin skinned because he's right. Their recruiting is good, their team is good, their conference is interesting. I think we are the ones trolling him without justification.

In all fairness, I was being completely honest, I really thought we needed it at one time including up until this summer and I also truly believe we don't anymore, The recruiting from this summer changed my mind, and this has nothing to do with an exhibition game. In 82's defense though I can see why my response raises his hackles. But he will just have to deal with it.
