You don’t think Reed can play 25 minutes and Reibe 15 at the 5? And of course injuries happen but we got by the last 2 years with Singare as our 3rd center and how many important minutes did he play? Of the transfers I wish he had stayed more than Nowell or Mahanney or Abraham

There is no way Tarris Reed is going to bang with big front lines and not have games with 2 first half fouls.
It is extremely unlikely that a freshman Reibe is going to avoid fouling
Adama missed games with injury
Clingan missed games with injury
Johnson missed most of a season
Alex can hold the fort but we absolutely need a big who will play
This is why we absolutely will need a third center for the upcoming season but as an ideal scenario would include no injuries and very few games where both centers have early foul trouble, what we can realistically land from the portal is someone with a center's body who would accept the possibility of seeing the court in only a handful of games outside of garbage time in blowouts.

In all candor I'd be very happy with a poor man's Philip Nolan.

I understand you think so, but the staff has made it pretty clear they do not. The 3rd string C is not being brought in with any expectations of getting minutes

We will bring in a 3rd big - Tom made that clear in his media availability. It will most likely be a low level transfer with the expectation to eat 5-7 minutes in games when the bigs are in foul trouble.

Yeah that's my point, if you listen to the video you posted the guy we bring in is not going to be playing. He said they're looking at guys for potential impact in year 2 or year 3 and to help in practice this year

I don't see a need for a third center other than as a practice player. Singare had two games with over 5 minutes of playing time last season. He had one game with over 5 minutes the year before.

We're going to have a 2 headed monster at center again, in the off chance both are in serious foul trouble we'll go small with AK at center.

We'll probably add two more practice players.

What if Reed or Reibe miss a few games because of injuries? I won't even talk about a serious injury that either misses most of the season.

We won't be as good in those games. Same is if our 2 point guards went down with injuries.

Sounds like with the pick up of Koroma we're covered now. I don't expect him to play much but he's a 6th year college player who seems like he can hold down the fort for 10-15 minutes in a game if he's asked to do that because of serious foul trouble or injuries.

If his defense is tight, he will add a ton of unseen value through practice this year.

Those Ross boys are long and very quick to recover.
Agree. Defense, rebounding (offensive and defensive) and shot blocking are all synonymous with the history of this program.

We have started to get more offensive talent in the past few years but cannot forget our DNA. 6-6 and 6-7 jumping jacks make great defenders. It seems to be an in-between size but it really is the most versatile. Important? Think about AJ and Stephon Castle (just remembered: Kromah and now Koromah).

Without adding another player our roster is well protected and with potent scoring. And even if we have no big in the lineup and go “small” for brief stints we would be good offensively during those periods. Alex, Stew, Silas, Solo and Mullins.

Definitely need a ball handler. Two guys is not enough (if one gets injured then the other guy cannot be taken out of the game). Same thing with having another center (although that is something that can be faked and the contributions outside of practice of the non-really 7' guy that isn't adept at basketball are being overblown).

Remember we were told they were shopping playable guys because they did not want high minute guys. So that was code for AK plays 30 not 40 and same for Silas and Solo and Tarris and Stewart. So we have their 10 min guys in Reibe, Mullins, Furphy, Malachi, Ross so adding a couple more is perfect

He is listed at 6'8", 205 lbs. Do you really think he can be our 3rd center? I would think we are still looking.

Why don't people watch the video of him playing before judging by size. He was playing pretty well against our Centers includign Tarris Reed. Do you really think we are getting any Center that isn't anything but a developmental player at this time? We are what we are and this is jut an emergency center. It is our 3rd center PF.

@3rdbass, Tom Moore specifically said we were looking "obviously" for a third string center as well as a combo forward. Borges said we had reached out to a couple 7' centers. I do expect a serviceable center as a target. We'll see if the prospects are merely developmental or just not yet proven. I think Singare would have been serviceable next year if he had been content to stay in that deep depth role. Other guys like him are out there. Koroma seems to more check the combo forward box but does give us a small ball 5 option.

He played Five for LeMoyne and even against us. Remember this is a 3rd option only to break the glass in caase of emergency. I doubt we have enough NIL to get anything at Center that will impact the game next year. We go through this every year people wanting a great 3rd string Center and I always laugh at it. Baba Miller isn't walking through that door.

I agree we're not getting anyone even remotely good, and Tom Moore's comments make that clear. But I do think we still bring in a bigger body than Koroma that's the 3rd center.

He played that spot at Le Moyne but the NEC is an exceptionally small conference. Wagner is the only team in the conference that started someone over 6'8 at C with Churchill Bounds, who on another note has an unbelievable name. I'm sure he could do it in small stretches like Karaban, but in the Big East he profiles as a 4

I can see why the Huskies like him. Watching the video I like how he absorbs contact and finishes. We've had some players that come highly touted but once they get bumped on the court B-East style, they become well ...not so above average :-) again watching the video I like this kid on our team playing in the conference we do!

“His strength is his approach as far as going into battles willing to do whatever it takes to win,” von Hanzlik said. “His ability to guard multiple positions, his versatility. There have been times for us where he has guarded 1-5, and offensively he has played 1-5 for us.

“I like his ballhandling ability and his ability to get his teammates involved. That puts him in position to be able to play on the ball. Then his length, measurements and athleticism put him in position to play off the ball and guard multiple positions. He can catch lobs and attack closeouts.”

We definitely still need a 3rd string center and another 3rd string ball handler/point guard for injury insurance and practice purposes. This commitment doesn't change that, nor does the Koroma one.

Dunno - we want ~30 min from our starters so they aren't big minute guys per coach. Also, this opens the door for ~10min guys to show their stuff. I believe the staff wants to help curtail injuries by minute restrictions. We have 13 guys.

  • 3rd string ball handler/point guard: we have Diaby available: 6'5" guard. Great for practices, emergency use: Diaby
  • 3rd string center - depends on if we can rotate Karaban or Koroma or Stewart to 5 if we need to. But yes, would be nice to have a Singare-type available.

We will either solidify the starters with Demary Jr., Ball, AK, Reed Jr so it's a question on Stewart or Mullins to start (if we need 3 G or 3 bigs).

Bench has talent to get ~10-12 minutes: Furphy, Reibe, Mullins/Stewart, Smith, Diaby, Koroma, Ross the elder, Ross the younger. Depends on how they perform in practice and games so we have to wait a little to see the real bench pecking order.

I'm surprised he didn't specifically mention another PG too. We're an injury away from having one proven ball handler/facilitator AGAIN. He did say a CG/wing and they did bring in SG Zeigler to have a look which is great, but I really feel they could use an established PG for depth as much as any other position
