Jacob Furphy to the portal

Sam V really hyped him up, so many of us got excited. We never really got to know the kid - was a ghost all season. Best of luck to the Taz. At least he got a viewers taste of what it feels like.

Gonna be interesting to see where we find our depth this year.

It's so hard to develop players in this environment.

Nobody's fault. It just is what it is.
Yeah, there really isn't much of that going on - you need 3-4 years to develop someone that raw. It's a two year sport right now. Hopefully he takes some of what he learned at UConn and flourishes.

Not surprising but it is humorous how there were some posters before 2025 season started on here that stated Furphy would get playing time this year and would be a future star.
I am probably one of them. He's very talented.

More humorous to see someone taking a victory lap to seemingly congratulate himself on a player transferring.
I always thought he would get real playing time his junior year. Not sure that is a victory lap. Just being realistic. Unfortunately in today’s college basketball unless you are a 5 star/OAD you should probably go to a lower level school and then transfer up.

Couldn’t find a meaningful minute here and if titles are goal wouldn’t next year either. Not all transfers are bad. Sometimes it’s a win win for both sides. Think this will be that

I doubt these guys look at the Boneyard, especially on their way out. But, good luck to Furphy. I'm sure he provided more value than we saw as a practice player. Would love for him to have stayed, but this seems like an understandable move if Coach Hurley told him his minutes would be limited for another year. If he drops down a level and has a good year, it can open up bigger NIL and programs for his junior year.

I think there are only 5 left, right? Silas, Solo, Braylon, Ross, Stew

With Furphy gone and the two Euros hitting the portal, who is even left? Jacob Ross?
Correct, at this point if we do get 5 back it means we'll keep 3 of Solo, Braylon, Jaylin, and Jacob Ross

Was hoping he would stay, he looked like a real player in the U19 tourney. Can't believe I watched all those Germany and Australia games for nothing.

Yes, but by watching Australia we were all witness to the single biggest chucker in the history of basketball with the kid who went to Pitt. It was incredible.

He looked great in that summer world championship tournament. I think the injury at the start of season derailed his chance. Had he been healthy when Braylen missed those games at the start he might have had a chance to prove he deserved time. UConn also had 9 pretty solid players this year. It was a tough rotation to crack.

Figured. Nobody is patient any more. Nothing surprises me with roster additions and losses these days. I wish him luck.
I find myself caring increasingly less about individual players who have only been here a year and portal out. Particularly those who haven't materially contributed.

The playing time didn't happen, but the future star is unknowable. I wouldn't assume he can't be

Yeah it was going to be hard to find minutes next year. Kind of is what it is.

If we want kids to stay we’ll have to have a serious plan to use them. No kid wants to sit for a year or 2 hoping to eventually develop enough to play.

Realistically you're not going to be able to go more than 8 deep for anyone worth a nickel. One will be a backup 5, another a backup PG and then the other a backup 2/3. Anything past that will be the Millender & Koroma's of the world or an experiment (Furphy & the Euros), which don't seem to work.

RIP Furphymania 2025-2026 we hardly knew ya.

Think he goes to an A-10 team and kills it tbh. Best of luck to him

He isn't adding any other high school kids for next season unless it's for a practice player.
So the only alternative then is 4 additional portal practice players in addition to the 3 we need (C, PF, and backup PG).

Good luck to him. Hoped he'd stay and develop but I understand the desire to get on the court sooner. It wasn't likely to happen here. Still makes the sport less enjoyable. Ross could be our last four year player.

We had 9 new players this season. Three of them were freshmen. Two freshmen (Mullins, Reibe) along with two new portal players (Silas, Malachi) were the only ones in the regular rotation.
